"The story of Ebenezer Scrooge opens on a Christmas Eve as cold as Scrooge's own heart. That night, he receives three ghostly visitors: the terrifying spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Each takes him on a heart-stopping journey, yielding glimpses of Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit, the horrifying spectres of Want and Ignorance, even Scrooge's painfully hopeful younger self. Will Scrooge's heart be opened? Can he reverse the miserable future he is forced to see?"

I bought this just last night at the library Christmas sale for my Secret Santa recipient. It seems like a very nice copy -- practically new. I am ashamed to say I've never actually read Dickens & I'm tempted to keep this for myself, but no -- off it will go! :')

I managed to be good and actually wait until Christmas Day to open my Secret Santa parcel! Slightly weighty, interesting size.....

And what a beautiful book! And a lovely pretty bookmark. The book was in great condition if it was second hand, and has lovely illustrations. I have yet to read any Dickens, but perhaps this will help to inspire me! Thanks Santa Indygo and Happy Christmas.

5 out of 10

Well I finally finished it. Mixed feelings toward the book really - I never really liked the story to begin with, but I really enjoyed some of Dickens' descriptive passages. And I was surprised that it was relatively easy to read. My preconception was that he was going to be really challenging and a bit of a slog. But perhaps it was simpler text than his other works as it's a children's story (or at least to my understanding!).

Thanks again indygo88. That's another one crossed off my BBC Big Read list. As it's such a lovely book, I think I'll hang on to it for a bit - maybe even send it to my next years Secret Santa!
