This is the story of Hannibal Lecter: how he became what he was in Thomas Harris previous books. It's a chilling but also brilliant thriller. To speak like Hannibal: "The dark captured me"... I just couldn't put the book down...
I'm making a bookray out of this one (it's a harcover). The following people are taking part:

"Amberkatze" from Vienna, Wien, Austria (Europe only)
"boirina" from Areia, Vila do Conde, Portugal (Europe pref.)
"soleille" from Leipzig, Sachsen, Germany (europe pref.)
"Necroscope" from Southampton, Hampshire, United Kingdom (Europe pref.)
"stubee" from Bury, Lancashire, United Kingdom (worldwide)
"MysteryMish" from Los Angeles, USA (US pref.)
"spoiledrotten" from fair lawn, New Jersey, USA (USA pref.)
"Bug2004" from Omaha, Nebraska, USA (USA pref.)
"Bibliocrates" from Trinity, Alabama, USA (int. possible)
"MooMoo1977" from Lismore, New South Wales, Australia (AUS pref.)

RELEASE NOTES:

On its way to "Amberkatze".

Journal Entry 3 by Amberkatze from Wien Bezirk 10 - Favoriten, Wien Austria on Wednesday, January 17, 2007
A big thank you book-man-8 for once again making me the first participant of one of your rings!

I have another ring and a few books I need to read for trades before this but maybe I will get around to it on the weekend...it is a little too big to be carrying around on public transport :)

Thanks again!

Journal Entry 4 by Amberkatze from Wien Bezirk 10 - Favoriten, Wien Austria on Sunday, January 21, 2007
I read this over the weekend and I have to say it wasn't anything like I expected. I actually think that this was nothing compared to the original 3 'Hannibal' books and I really wonder if the author was forced to write this book (for whatever reasons) because it just didn't have the 'oomph' that his others have.

Obviously the author did alot of research to set the scene but at times I found the storyline a little boring. I did however read the book all the way through but found the ending a little disappointing and wanted to know more....however maybe there will be another book?

Anyway I will pm the next person to send this on. However I will have to wait till next week to post this as I already have so many books going out this week and need to wait for payday ;)

Thank you for letting me take part in this ray book-man-8. I think I would have been annoyed with myself if I had actually bought the book myself.

The book got here yesterday. :)

Journal Entry 6 by boirina from Mallorca - Calvià, Illes Balears/Islas Baleares Spain on Monday, March 12, 2007
I sent the book to soleille today.

I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll see the movie, not at the cinema at least. :)

I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for the bookring, book-man-8!

Journal Entry 7 by soleille from Leipzig, Sachsen Germany on Tuesday, March 20, 2007
I LOVE Hannibal Lecter (well, Silence and Red Dragon, anyway, felt a bit let down by Hannibal), so it will be great to follow the path that led to who he became...and I must say, the book does sound really interesting even as a stand-alone story presuming one didn't know who Lecter will be as well.
I hadn't counted on this coming here so fast, it's great I can actually read it as long as the movie is still in the cinema (because I'm such a book first, movie second person and had resigned myself to having to get the film on DVD one day)
Thanks for organising this ray!!!

Journal Entry 8 by soleille from Leipzig, Sachsen Germany on Monday, May 7, 2007
GREAAAAAAAT book! Thanks so much for including me, I don't think that after Hannibal, I would have bought another book from this series, but I really loved it. It has a very different feel compared to the other Lecter books- he's not the refined psychopath yet, he doesn't sem to be as hungry either :o) and he is not the worst villain in this book.
As I said before, the story of war crimes and revenge would have been great even if you didn't know the main character, but as a background to my favourite cannibal's life it is just priceless.
Necroscope wanted to be skipped, now waiting for stubee's addy :O)

Journal Entry 9 by soleille from Leipzig, Sachsen Germany on Saturday, May 19, 2007
off to stubee as of yesterday

Journal Entry 10 by stubee from Bury, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Friday, June 22, 2007
This arrived just before I went on holiday so I hadn’t had a chance to register that I’d caught it, anyway I managed to read it while I’m away so it didn’t hold up the ring too much, thanks to book-man-8 for making this available.

I absolutely loved this instalment of the Hannibal franchise by Harris, I had wondered if Harris had any thoughts on where Hannibal came from and obviously he did. I can happily get the film out now and see how it compares.

You really get to feel sorry for Hannibal as a child and wish him all the success in enacting revenge on the people who wrong him during the war.

I’ve PM’d MysteryMish and will send it one as soon as I’ve got an address.

Sent to MysteryMish (Los Angeles, USA) today. - 3rd July 2007

Journal Entry 12 by MysteryMish from Santa Monica , California USA on Tuesday, July 10, 2007
I received the book in the mail. I am looking forward to reading it (although I heard it is grisly!)

Journal Entry 13 by MysteryMish from Santa Monica , California USA on Wednesday, July 25, 2007
This was good as a stand-alone book, but it didn't do an adequate job of explaining how Hannibal came to be so twisted. The author does a good job of setting the scene and giving background information on Hannibal.

SPOILER ALERT - DON'T READ ANY FURTHER TILL YOU'VE READ THE BOOK.

I feel like the story really ended at the end of this book. Hannibal experienced atrocities and exacted revenge on those responsible. It isn't at all clear to me how he got to be who he is by the time the other books take place.

Received as part of a book ring. Please be patient as I have received several rings at the same time. I am only reading "Rings" right now and will try and hurry.

08/29/07 I just started this book today and when I went to check you gets it next, I realized that bug2004 is also getting the ring I just finished, so if okay I will wait till I read this one and mail both together, shouldn't take too long.

09/01/07 Sent out today to bug2004. I found this book to be a quick read and not as "Thrilling" as expected. Thanks for including me in this ring!

I finally started reading this book several days ago and am almost finished, not sure what I think of it yet... I plan on mailing it out to MooMoo1977 some time next week, just wanted to give everyone an update, sorry for the hold up. Life is rough at the moment...

Journal Entry 20 by Bibliocrates from Pueblo, Colorado USA on Sunday, January 20, 2008
I didn't think it would be possible that Hannibal -the cannibal- Lector, could be a sympathetc character, but that is indeed the case in this book, at least it was for this reader. This book will take you back to Hannibal's childhood when he lost his family to a group of starving Nazi savages. Hannibal got a taste of what happened to his little sister, Mischa, whom he adored dearly. He got his revenge. Needless to say, it changed him, turned him into a monster. I liked this book, but it was filled with foreign phrases that I felt should have been translated. Also, I found Hannibal's relationship with his stepmother, Lady Murasaki, quite unbelievable. Nonetheless, I would recommend this book to any Hannibal fan. Will I like the movie?

Thank you for sharing this book book-man-8! Again, my apologies for having kept it for so long.

Received today from Bibliocrates while I was off sick with the flu. thanks heaps for sending and thanks to book-man-8 for organising this. I'm already half way through the book and feel a sense of pathos for Hannibal - it's no wonder the way he is. Anyhoo - I'm anticipating the ending.

Thanks again for sending, Bibliocrates and thank you book-man-8!

Journal Entry 23 by rem_OIN-713485 on Saturday, February 23, 2008
I don't know if I'm still keen for a chianti, fava beans and a nice slice of human brain - but I enjoyed the literary delight of this book. Certainly gives you a better (and may I say it) - more humane face to Hannibal Lecter (no pun intended).

Loved it and found it easy to read although there were times when I wished the action hurried on a bit. But still highly enjoyable.

Am about to email orlandoflores for their address and will hopefully send this beauty on its way. Thank you again to book-man-8 for sharing and thank you Bibliocrates for mailing it to me. :) xxxx

Journal Entry 24 by rem_OIN-713485 on Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Have waited over a week for orlandoflores to reply to my PMs and forum posts - but nothing. I have messaged book-man-8 letting them know where I am at - but I think I shall send it onto tiatia if I still haven't heard anything by the end of this week.

Basically - it will be making its move sometime next week.

Journal Entry 25 by rem_OIN-713485 on Friday, March 7, 2008
With the A-OK from book-man-8 - I've sent this via sea mail to tiatia. :)

Thanks again book-man-8 for sharing!

Arrived safe and sound from down under. That alone tickled me. It came with a super magnet and very interesting bookmark.
I have two ahead if this and back to back work trips so I may be slower then usual. I didn't see a name after mine so the pressure is not as great to read it quickly. But I can't wait to take a bite out of this book. (Sorry I couldn't resist.)
