"BADGROUND - INSIDE THE BEACONSFIELD MINE RESCUE"

The Brant Webb & Todd Russell Story.

Badground is the real story of miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb and their deliverance from entombment in the depths of the Beaconsfield hard-rock mine. But the aftershock of the seismic event that trapped them affected the close knit mining community just as profoundly. Family, friends, fellow miners and rescuers: this is also the story of those who worked desperately against the clock and against all odds to reach the men below, of those who held vigil, of those who grieved, and those who never stopped believing.

Tony Wright was there covering the story as it unfolded, and experienced firsthand the making of an Australian legend. Now Beaconsfield has shared with him it's most personal memories and deepest secrets - woven by Wright into an enthralling narrative that reads like a psychological thriller. No-one will remain unmoved as Russell and Webb reveal the thoughts, the fears, the courage and the humanity to be found in the hearts and minds of men enduring the unendurable, down in the deepest dark.

Absolutely one of the best books I have read in a long time. I remember crying every day when I watched the news while the miners were trapped, and my disbelief when they came out alive. This book is much, much more involving and emotionally nerve wracking than those news stories. It jumps from in the mine to families of the miners to rescue workers, and it is very well written. I have learnt heaps about the reality of mining and miners lives, as well as the deepest thoughts of two men trapped in a dark cage the size of an average desk. Unbelievable.
Thanks so much for sharing frangipani, reading this has been an inspiration.
I will pm Puppymummy now to get this on it's way.

I have just sent this off to Crystaljade because Puppymummy has a note on her bookshelf saying she is overrun by books.
Crystaljade hope you find this as good as I did. Hopefully Puppymummy will be ready for it when you finish.

This book arrived safely, I'm sorry about the delay journaling it. I haven't been able to get to the library to use their pcs for a while.

I've started reading it already. I'm already learning more about Todd and Brant's situation than I'd ever known before. I'm sure I will find the rest of the book just as interesting.

Wow! I don't cry often, but this book brought tears to my eyes...more than once! Some incredible strokes of luck helped save these two men. Or maybe it was more than luck....I think their guardian angels helped, and these two blokes have some sort of job to do here on Earth. It may well be that surviving this accident, and becoming an inspiration to people all over the world was it. Or maybe they have another purpose they haven't fulfilled yet.

Anyway, I'll get bookfairy65's address and get it posted ASAP.

I started reading this last night and am already about half-way through it. I am also finding it quite difficult to resist the temptation to race off and finish reading it instead of doing the things I have to do today.

Interestingly enough, I have just heard that another mine in Tasmania - the Mt Lyell Copper Mine on the west coast of Tassie - has ceased underground operations as of Sunday night due to a rock fall. Thankfully, all the miners got out safely - but all the same, it's a tough way to make a living!

Will journal again when I have finished reading the book - it shouldn't be long.

I was glued to the TV when the Beaconsfield rescue was happening - particularly after they found out that Todd and Brant were alive. I truly did not believe that they had survived and cannot believe that it is almost a year since the disaster.

This book also had me in tears (as I was when I was watching the TV broadcast some 11 months ago). I just can't imagine the conditions that Todd and Brant survived. It is amazing that they aren't totally insane - as a claustrophobic person myself - I'm sure I'd be a blubbering idiot under the same circumstances, as a matter of fact, I don't think I could ever even enter a mine in the first place - so the situation that Todd and Brant found themselves in is totally beyond my imagination.

I don't think I ever really knew either, the circumstances under which the body of Larry Knight was found. It must have been terribly difficult for Larry's family to see the euphoria surrounding Todd and Brant's rescue. I think Larry's family were especially brave the way they handled the situation and my thoughts go out to them.

I will contact the next person on the list and get this book to them ASAP. Thank you again frangipani08 for sharing this book.

This had a lot of new information in it about the specifics of the mine rescue, and I found it really interesting - I have very little knowledge of mine operations, and so all of that was very interesting.
The photos were great, and the story of how Todd and Brant survived and coped was fascinating. I was a little disappointed though that it was so focused on them, I would have liked a little more about the other miners and I thought Bill Shorten got a really raw deal in the book.
Overall I'm in awe of how these men cope with the pressures of working so far underground. The book will be returning home shortly.

RELEASE NOTES:

Sending home, along with a couple of surprises. I've wrapped this in bubble wrap to protect it a bit - it appears to have become damaged during its travels, as when it arrived some of the binding had become loose and someone before me had stuck some of the pages back in. Hopefully the bubble wrap will prevent any further damage before it reaches home.
