Jerzy Kosinski: A Biography

"Fascinating, vivid, compelling", says Christopher Lehman-Haupt of the New York Times and I agree.
A most mysterious, somewhat sinister man who captured the imagination of many and hobnobbed with the rich and famous, he comitted suicide in New York in 1991. This thorough, well researched and documented biography offers you a view of Jerzy Kosinski, the Polish author and polo player and actor.

Found this book in my mailbox - what a friendly postman I have ;-) I have started reading it almost immediately and it seems promising... What a pity I am so busy at the moment that I do not have a lot of time to read!
My big question is: will reading this biography stimulate me to _finally_ go read The painted bird - which I am warned against?
I will post again after I finished the book...
AND HERE I AM AGAIN, AT LAST. I have been delaying because I find it hard to get my thoughts together about Kosinski. But that must stop: I will just begin writing and see where my keyboard is leading me ;-)
As said, I was warned against reading The painted bird because people who know me also knew I would be very upset & disgusted by it. Not that I am such a sensitive soul; I just hate cruelty, sexism and injustice. So I was not pleased to find out that Kosinski was 'no amiable person', so to say. But James Park Sloan manages to picture him as a HUMAN BEING: an opportunist, self-centered man with tics and a dark side that you can still feel for. I can understand how he came to be Jerzy Kosinski. And I feel sad for him in a way, but it is Park Sloan's achievement that I view Kosinski not as a victim, but as someone who tried to live and create as well as he could.
I think I will go and read The painted bird. And 'the world' will have to wait for the real release of this book, because I am passing it on to nokawa. He's the one who got Kosinski's Being there and The painted bird in the house.
