The Mother-in-law

Synopsis
You can choose your friends but you can't choose your mother-in-law. Electra and Adam are living proof that opposites attract. Electra is warm, passionate and creative. She wants to have a baby. Adam is calm, reasonable and very English. He doesn't. Enter the mother-in-law...Cold, critical and snobbish, she disapproves of her son's marriage. And then she moves in with them. Will their relationship survive? This work is a darkly funny, insightful and cautionary tale that will make you question where your loyalties lie.
This is a signed book from the Birmingham talk on November 25th.
Really enjoyed this book. It was funny and believable. I expected Alvaro to be diagnosed with autism but that didn't happen. He was entertaining anyway with his Elvis fixation.
Thanks for bringing this book along ReetPetite, I'll read it then pass it on to waderwoman. Lovely to see you, hope you got home safe, and have a great Christmas!
Thanks for passing this book on reetpetite, I really enjoyed it - will be popping it in waderwoman's stocking!

Picked up from the rather jolly meet-up in Nottingham.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I rather enjoyed this book - not my usual genre admittedly but there were some tender and genuinely thought-provoking issues dealt with.
I've learnt something about Northern Cyprus and discovered a new author, all-in-all a great book.
I'm taking this to the meet-up and if no-one fancies it, I'll leave it on the bookshelf.

I was glad to see this book at the meet-up because the author is going to be doing a talk at the BookCrossing Unconvention in September, and I wanted to read something by her before then.

If he weren't obsessed about Elvis, he'd be obsessing about something else. At last Elvis is a positive role model. I obsess about him myself sometimes, dressed in that black leather jumpsuit.
'Positive role model? Heavy drinker, pill-popper, philanderer?'
'We all have our foibles, Lydia. If Elvis drank stinky green tea and went to bed at eleven-thirty, do you think he would have been a rock and roll legend?'
Electra, the daughter-in-law, is a warm and vibrant woman, and a night-owl who uses eleven-thirty as an example of an early bedtime, but I didn't really warm to her, her husband Adam, or their family and friends, or care about their problems. Electra'a best friend Lydia, with her inadequate mothering style and bratty son, was especially annoying.

I enjoyed this book, despite the fact that none of the characters are very likeable.
I'm glad that I have read it before I see Eve Makis speak at the Unconvention in September.

I sadly didn't get into this book. I read about 50 or so pages and gave up. I think she is a good writer but a bit slow going and way way too descriptive. Just not a book for me sadly.

This book has been returned after travelling the globe as although I paid the right postage amount. But I guess the address was wrong. I am still on the hunt for the book crosser. Although I don't think I will be able too work it out. So this book will most likely go to the Nottingham book crossing event in September.
