Journal Entry 1 by LeishaCamden from Alna bydel, Oslo fylke Norway on Saturday, November 25, 2006
I've read several novels by Fay Weldon previously, though not this one, which in fact I had never even heard about. It looks interesting though - the story of a woman who is the mother of an illegitimate child, whose father is now running for president of the United States. Sounds like trouble. :-) I'm looking forward to reading it; update will follow. This copy has a different cover from the one shown. I got this book at a flea market at Grünerløkka elementary school in Oslo on Saturday, October 28th, 2006.

Journal Entry 3 by LeishaCamden from Alna bydel, Oslo fylke Norway on Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Finished this tonight. It was an OK read, well written and thought-provoking in parts. But very Weldon - she always writes in the exact same style, at least everything I've ever read by her ... not at all sure that that is really a strength. The phrase 'overly typical' suggests itself. Generally I felt that the book was rather dated, the subject matter has lost some of its interest because the material is so obviously from a different era. I also felt that the story lost credibility over the last 30-40 pages. It got increasingly unlikely, if I may put it like that. The conspiracy got too complicated for me to really believe in it. :-) The ending seemed contrived, an 'easy out' for the author. All in all it was very Weldonesque, quite political and not too complicated. An easy read, but far from the best of hers that I've read. I'll release this book pretty soon, I think. Happy reading to the finder. :-)
