Keeping Faith: A Novel

"For the second time in her marriage, Mariah White catches her husband with another woman, and Faith, their seven-year-old daughter, witnesses every painful minute. In the aftermath of a sudden divorce, Mariah struggles with depression and Faith begins to confide in an imaginary friend. At first, Mariah dismisses these exchanges as a child's imagination. But when Faith starts reciting passages from the Bible, develops stigmata, and begins to perform miraculous healings, Mariah wonders if her daughter--a girl with no religious background-might actually be seeing God. As word spreads and controversy flares, Mariah and Faith are besieged by believers and disbelievers alike, caught in a media circus that threatens what little stability they have left. Building inexorably to a climactic battle for custody, Keeping Faith explores a family plagued by the media, the medical profession, and organized religion in a world where everyone has an opinion but no one knows the truth."

Having read quite a few of Picoult's novels now, I feel like I'm used to her writing style & can predict to some degree the outcome of things. However, I do very much enjoy the controversial topics she writes about, so I'll likely continue working my way through her books, both the older & the new. This book will probably either appeal to you or it won't, depending on your views of God & religious "phenomena". However, I do think that Picoult writes the book in a way that can be open to interpretation by various viewpoints. There were things I agreed with & others I wasn't so sure about, and Picoult's writing style occasionally gets a little flowery, but I still enjoyed this one.
Starting a mini-ray! General courtesy applies. Please journal the book when you receive it, with your review, and then when you send it on. Enjoy! :')

Easter Sunday 2008-
I finished Keeping Faith earlier this afternoon. I thought I had this whole story figured out until I read the last three paragraphs. Hmph...now I'm not sure. I don't want to write too much and give anything away but...what??? Did it end the way I think it did...??
I look forward to hearing what other readers thought of the ending. Feel free to pm me when you've finished it, please!!
I will mail this to CollegeLady tomorrow morning.

Received in the post today. I will be on vacation next week and hope to read this one as well during that time.
I just got back from vacation and this book was waiting for me. Thank you for sending it.
This was an book that kept me interested. This is not a subject that I read much about. There were some parts of the story that got a little boring. This wasn't Picoult's best book but it is a worthwile read.
I just received it!! I love Jodi Picoult and actually avoided this one because of the subject. After reading several reviews by other Bookcrossers I decided to give it a shot. I'll let you know what I think.
I just finished it and I loved it! It kept my attention the whole way through. I truly couldn't put it down, I just HAD to know what was going to happen. Then it happened, I got to the end and now I'm scratching my head. I re-read that last page 3 times and seriously, I have no idea what happened. PLEASE, PLEASE , someone PM me and explain the ending to me. I think I understand what happened but then my husband read the ending and thought something else. Anyway... as soon as I get lisabb2's address I'll send it on its way. Thanks for sharing.
Just got in the mail today. Will read shortly but have two other books in front of this one.
Forgot to mention the neat dolphin book mark that I got with the book. Thanks campinghamster!!!
Hmmm...strange ending...left you kind of hanging or unsure of what was really going on. I enjoyed the majority of this book but thought some of it was alittle too over the top.
Since I'm the last one on this ray, I'll pass it on to another bookcrosser or start another ray soon. Thanks for sharing!!!
