I found myself doubting the validity of this supposedly true story. Does anyone in the world really act like this? Regarding the Dr...Can someone smart enough to make it through medical school possibly have done the things he allegedly did? Is it possible that every single person in this kid's life was dysfunctional??? Unbelievable.
At times shockingly crude and embarrassing, I found myself looking over my shoulder hoping no one was reading along with me. When I took the book out and about town with me, I felt as if it should be covered with a plain brown wrapping, so no one would know what I was reading.
I don't think of myself as a prude, but this was a little too explicit, a little too over the top, for me.
I would like to give this more stars, because it actually was an interesting, easy and fairly fast read. But because I wouldn't read it again OR recommend it to my friends, it only gets 6 stars from me. I feel that is being generous.
Gladly passing it along to fellow bookcrosser, BruceAlexander. Enjoy!? :)

Received this in the mail yesterday in trade from my newfound friend, TQL. Thanks for the nice swap - here's to many happy future trades!
Wow, what a strange, sordid tale. A little hard to believe at times, though - and this is someone's memoir? Hmmmmm. Some of it made me laugh out loud, like the author's reference to a McUniform, the Christmas tree escapades, the breast-loons, the mustard on Wheat Thins snack, the prophetic turds drying on the picnic table - the list is endless. I can't believe that someone could actually live like this and yet function in society at the same time, however.
I have since heard that the "Finch" family is suing the author! I wonder if their lawyer is crazy, too...

Arrived today. Thanks for the trade. I'm looking forward to reading it.
Yes. Well. Couldn't be true, so he really could get more credit for fiction, but since he insists it's true...well. Yes.
Then it's VERY strange. For the first time I started watching the movie WHILE I was still reading the book. I quit watching before I saw something I hadn't reached in the book yet. Then I finished the book before I watched the end of the movie. The movie actually did a better job, for once, of tying up the loose ends and bringing the story into perspective. It would have had to. No one could leave a movie theater feeling the way I did when I finished reading this book. It was just too sad, and not funny at all.
