Journal Entry 1 by jouni from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Sunday, November 05, 2006
From the backcover: "No one ever knew who Gatsby was. Some said he had been a German spy, others that he was related to one of Europe's royal families. Nearly everyone took advantage of his fabulous hospitality. And it was fabulous. In his suberb Long Island home he gave the most amazing parties, and not the least remarkable thing about them was that few people could recognize their host. He seemed to be a man without a background, without history; whose eyes were always searching the glitter and razzamatazz for something... someone?"

Nice to see you, Jouni, at the meet-up. Thanks for letting me take this book, even when I said I probably wouldn't read it right away. But a slim classic sitting on the shelf will surely tempt me sooner or later!

Journal Entry 4 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Wednesday, November 22, 2006
I still haven't read this, jouni, but I did recently finish Reading Lolita in Tehran, which was not just about Lolita, but also Gatsby and other books. I'm afraid it didn't leave me feeling in any hurry to get to Gatsby, but I thought it might make the perfect RABCK for somebody further down the line on the bookring. So I'm packaging it up and sending it to hetku77. Hetku, if you want this (see chapter 2 of our bookring), you're welcome to it! If not, then please pass it on to anyone else you think would like it, or wild-release it - it's up to you.

24.11. I received a bookring book from Potok-fan and this was in the package as a surprise. Thank you! I have the book in Finnish in my bookshelf, so I'll probably save this for wild release in my future trips abroad next year. 17.3. I took this book with me to a lengthened weekend in Oslo. I will either wild release it or give it to my penpal, who is also a bookcrosser.

Journal Entry 6 by shimi from Nordre Aker bydel, Oslo fylke Norway on Saturday, March 17, 2007
This book was handed to me in person when I met up with hetku77 here in Oslo this morning. I have actually read Gatsby about 15 years ago or something, but I don't remember much of it anymore, so it will be interesting to see if I like the book this time around (I did back then). Thanks a lot for bringing me some surprise books, Heidi! :)

Haha, the other day I discovered a copy of this book in my boyfriend's bookshelf, so instead of holding on to this, I'm letting it travel today as a surprise RABCK to someone who's working on the 1001-challenge, who hopefully doesn't have this book already! :) #699 - 1001 books you must read before you die

Well, I really don´t know what to say about Gatsby. I still don´t know him even after reading the book. But it gives a nice glimpse of that time. Thanks for sharing Shimi. I will pass it along to someone else who´s reading 1001-books. This is #699 on the list: 1001 books you must read before you die.

Now I have finally read it! I guess this book is quite much a product of its time. The first half of the book I was just bored, and when things finally started to happen I found myself mostly annoyed by the characters' superficiality. Still, it has some good parts and I am glad I read it. I can see why it was a much-appreciated book when it was released. Will give this to Missmilla in our next BC meetup.
