Wow--I barely know what to say about this wonderful book!
It's captivating, beautifully written and pulls at your emotions from start to finish. The plot is what interested me the most, but there is so much more to this book. The writing is amazing--beautiful descriptions without being dense. I came away really feeling for the characters and so happy that I was able to see what their lives turned out to be.
A definite A++++!!!
A BIG thank you for offering this bookring.

**Pm'd INFOSTERMOM for Bookring as she's next in line; will journal once mailed out**

Thank you for allowing me to participate in this ring. This was a great book. The story line was perfect, never contrived. The characters were real. The story will definitely stay with me for a long time. It was well written.

Sent to 'bestfriends' on Jan. 3

The book arrived in good condition in my mailbox today after a long journey of almost 7 weeks.

Thanks infostermom for sending it. I love the card that came with it and the information about Indiana you wrote on the back. Hope to visit all those lovely places one day ;-)

I'm about half-way in the book I'm currently reading and this one will be up next. Looking forward to it. Thanks jnpert for sharing.

Journal Entry 9 by bestfriends from - Ergens in de provincie, Gelderland Netherlands on Friday, February 23, 2007
Finished reading yesterday and waited a bit before writing a review to let the story sink in, as it left me with conflicting feelings and opinions. On one hand I liked and enjoyed it. On the other I did not. The storyline sure kept my attention and I finished it quite quickly, so yes you could call it a “page turner”. However, does that make a book a good novel?

You see, I wondered what makes this story any different than a "cheap dime novel" or the script of a mediocre B-movie/TV show (especially the latter). Even the names of the characters sometimes reminded me of so-so TV series. It’s a pity, as now and then the style of writing is really, really good, though often also a bit bombastic. For my taste Ms. Edwards uses too many “she let go of a breath she did not even know she was holding” phrases.

Someone recently started a topic about sentences like this in the Book Talk forum :
"Please don't say that again"

Well, the very same sentence was used in this book too! I laughed out loud when reading it!!!! Also: Too many coincidences and improbabilities for my taste.

On the whole: A pleasant read, not more than that. True: a better way to spend a few hours of your time, than watching bad TV shows ;-)! It did not strike me as "great" though and I did not think that the fact that it's a bestseller is completly justified. Still, I would like to see what Kim Edwards comes up with next. She has the potential to write that brillant novel one day.

I have already PM-ed the next on the list for her address the day I received the book. Once again a few days later. So far no reply. Posted an ISO in the forum today (25 Febr.)

27 February update:

Just asked prilade by PM whether she ever received this! I sent it by economy (surface) mail. Ususally it takes anywhere between 10-30 days to get there, even to countries like Bulgaria. It never happened before that it took this long for a book to arrive!

30th April update: No answer yet, repeated the PM today.

Sorry, kinda stalled on this for a while... it was one of those books that I could read huge chunks of when I actually sat down to read it, but was rarely inspired to pick it up.

Will pass it on to ankh-angel as soon as I have an address.

Ankh-angel and akashafamily both passed on this, so it is now finally on the move again heading out to tinytoes in the USA.

Thanks for allowing me the chance to be part of this bookring. I wouldn't say I was blown away by this book but I am glad I read it. I think the idea for the plot was extremely interesting but I felt it was hard to sympathize with some of the characters because they seemed pretty self-centered to me. I kept trying to imagine from different characters' points-of-view how they could have kept the secrets they did for so long. While most of the book was about loss and emotional pain, it did have a hopeful ending.

I enjoyed this novel, but I read it in fits and starts. I have to agree with bestfriends somewhat; the language was pretty, but sometimes it made me roll my eyes. However, I have to admit, toward the end I hardly paid attention to the language; I skimmed the book so that I could find out how it ended.

I will mail this book back to jnpert. Thanks so much for sharing!
