I'm not really into murder mysteries...but I like this series. It has the 'cozy' in 'cozy mysteries' down pat. Even when there are people bwing murdered left and right, there's always a touch of whimsy, humour and sentiment in these stories. I like the main characters (human and feline) and the settings. I guess you could day that this series is my 'escapist fluff'. Some read Danielle Steel (ack!!!) and some bodice rippers (groan - not in a good way ;P) but I have these feline cozy mysteries to read.
As usual, the ending was rather anti-climatic..but who cares? The journey was entertaining...
You don't need to be a Crazy Cat Lady to like this series, but it helps! ;)

PS. Hi newk!
Libertine is right, these books do get the "cosy" bit just right. I've noticed as the series has progressed the murder(s) seem to be becoming more and more incidental to the story, with much more space being devoted to loving descriptions of food and interior decoration, but that's a large part of the appeal of the stories really, that they're more about the characters and small-town life, than about solving mysteries. Although I'm getting a bit worried for the residents of Pickaxe - so many of their citizens have been murdered I'm surprised there's anyone left there!

Another Cat book that I was given today at brunch
Scored this book from Lytteltonwitch at brunch a month ago - still on my 'to read' list. However it is nearing the top of the pile!!
I found the book several years ago in New World, South City, Christchurch. I noticed because Lilian Jackson Braun is one of my favourite authors, well anything to do with cats is sure to be a hit with me. I meant to read and release the book quickly, but life intervened. I have recently been house bound on sick leave and found the book and am reading it. When done I will leave it somewhere in New Zealand for someone else to find
Enjoyable light reading
