A book that has a lot of politics involved, interesting in the price that must be paid for magic but I found it overall not to be my kind of book.

I enjoyed the Golden Torc and the rest of that series, so hopefully I'll like this too.
I like the drawbacks of using magic, allowing powerful spells without upsetting the balance too much. I also like how the common magic is integrated with the general workings of the land - it's not just something to be used by the hero/antagonist.
But I think George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire has spoiled me for fantasy. Nothing else is living up to it.

Gave to nuteile to bring on the BCie trip to Belfast.
Caught at the Ireland meetup in Belfast.
I think the Golden Torc series was much better than this, and couldn't get into this at all.
