GGM serialised this amazing story in El Espectador, a newspaper he worked on in Bogota. The sailor walked into his office out of the blue and he was assigned to interview him. The story was a sensation because the truth that the vessel was overloaded had been suppressed, in favour of the explanation of the storm.
The story itself, although very short, is well written and absolutely gripping. I enjoyed it all the more having read about it in Gabito's autobigraphy, "Living to tell the tale".

Released at Chertsey Meet this evening.
Picked up at the Chertsey meet.
A short but enjoyable book. I just can't imagine how he could have survived all that time.
As I love GGM and I haven't read this, when I spotted it on the table I just had to unashamedly grab it. So here it is with me!
29/01/09 Update:
Read this some time ago but forgot to make a journal entry. I enjoyed this book and am staggered at the endurance one man can possess. Will be taking this to London with me today to continue its journey.
