With One Lousy Packet of Seed is Lynne Truss's splendidly malicious novel about contemporary celebrity journalism and its intrusiveness. Much of the plot has to do with the attempt to find something new to say about garden sheds by Osborne, a writer who has done so many profiles that famous people have started to blend into each other in his mind--Truss is often at her funniest when her characters get closest to being entirely deranged. Osborne is one of the regular contributors to a small gardening magazine on its last legs--Come into the Garden has a staff almost entirely made up of obsessives of one kind or another, and Truss gets to settle a lot of personal scores with sub-editors and researchers

Oh what a lovely surprise Sterile thank you so much for sending me this book from my wish list. As the mountain that is my TBR pile is steadily rising I'm not sure at what point it will get read but fear not, it will get read & then passed to another Bookcrosser who will appreciate it.
Thanks again &....
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

An amusing tale featuring a range of quirky & eccentric characters, (take Lillian for example, a secretary who can't touch envelopes!) which sets the stage for a whole series of misunderstandings...& disasters.

To me, the story had a farcical feel to it....just the sort of thing our local Amateur Dramatics might put on - great fun & certainly not to be taken seriously!

I picked this up from a Bookcrossing meet up in Starbucks, Cheltenham. It sat on my bookshelf for some time but was the perfect book to read after a lot of revising for an exam.

Still in Starbucks Cheltenham where CrazyRunner left it two weeks ago. I haven't read this but apparently there's a wonderfully surreal moment involving a pet rabbit...

(My original journal entry here was a bit of plot-spoiler, so I've changed it - besides, it was the only bit of the book I actually knew about)
