Off in a ray to Portugal!

Journal Entry 4 by BettyBoekwurm from Porto - City, Porto Portugal on Wednesday, February 7, 2007
It took a while to get here, but it arrived yesterday! And the timing couldn't be better, since I had just finished my last book and was about to choose a new one to read!

Started it last night and I'm already liking it. Thanks for sharing debnance!

Journal Entry 5 by BettyBoekwurm from Porto - City, Porto Portugal on Tuesday, February 27, 2007
This is a very fascinating book, and it gives us a lovely insight not only on the life of Geishas as on a part of the japanese society during the war. The story is quite lovely and it is a very pleasant read. Though I did enjoy it very much, it still seemed to have something that left me with a sort of empty feeling. I liked Sayuri, but at the same time, there were certain things that didn't seem to feel right about this character. I can't put my finger on it. A friend commented something about a man writing as a female character not "feeling right". Maybe it has something to do with that.

Thank you for sharing, debnance. Bandaids asked to be skipped, so I'll be sending the book to beekeeper40 this week.

Journal Entry 6 by beekeeper40 from Hoveton, Norfolk United Kingdom on Sunday, March 11, 2007
Arrived safely - thank you! Next but one to be read.

Journal Entry 7 by beekeeper40 from Hoveton, Norfolk United Kingdom on Thursday, March 29, 2007
I enjoyed this book as I knew next to nothing about Geishas. I thought the war years could have gone into more detail though. Overall a very nice read.

Pming next reader.

Thank you! I have received the book yesterday and will read it next.

Journal Entry 10 by redbandita from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Wednesday, May 9, 2007
This was as good a read as I had expected. I enjoyed the decriptions of places and the characters, although I hope the "Pumpkin" story had been wrapped up more delicately, after all it's a work of fiction and this bit of the story could have been taylored a bit better. Tjis book is en route to Fifna. Have fun!

Journal Entry 11 by wingFifnawing from Tampere, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Sunday, May 13, 2007
The book has arrived safely, thanks redbandita!

This is the first book in a really long time that''s truly engaged me. I really enjoyed it! It''s in the mail to our next reader, CWarnke, in Houston, Texas! I hope you enjoy it as well.

Journal Entry 16 by Cwarncke from Plano, Texas USA on Saturday, August 4, 2007
Just received today ~ TBR and sent on it''s way. Thanks!

Journal Entry 17 by Cwarncke from Plano, Texas USA on Monday, August 20, 2007
I liked this book. The story kept me interested. Although, I was a bit surprised
at women treating other women as property, as if they were no more than a car or
some possession to be upgraded or thrown out. Even for Japan as recent as the 50's.
Perhaps I'm a bit naive. (ya think?)

It'll be on its way to tkm13us as soon as I get an address.

Thanks, Deb, for sending it out! I'm glad I got to read it!

Journal Entry 18 by Cwarncke from Plano, Texas USA on Tuesday, February 12, 2008
