By calling a temporary truce, Derek Sagan and the rebels thwarted the alien Corasian invasion. Enemies once again, the rebels have resumed their defiance and Sagan has retumed to his campaign to topple the corrupt galactic government. He plans to set up Dion as king of the Starfire dynasty-and to place himself as the ruling power behind the throne. On a remote planetary sinkhole of sin and corruption, a small weapon-barely ten centimeters on a side-is hidden. If activated, this seemingly harmless crystal cube could tear a hole in the universe. . .and destroy the fabric of creation. Sagan wants it. Lady Maigrey wants it. And so does Abdiel, a cruel genius who commands a drugged army of mindless slaves. And now Dion is caught in this momentous struggle as he faces his greatest trial yet in his battle to gain the interstellar throne.

I picked the book up form the "tabel of temptation" also known as the book buffet of the London Convention 2008. Thank you very much. I love Magaret Weis book, especially if they a written with Tracy Hickman. I just couldn´t put the Death Gate series down, until I had read them all. This one is one of those I don´t know yet! So thank you very much for bringing this book! I have to get hold of part one now... ;-)

I´m nearly through with part one. I can hardly put the book down. So I think I will start on this one right away after I finished "The Lost King" (sometime this evening). I have to admit I just ordered part three (The Kings sacrifice) and strongly hope it will arrive in time for the weekend.

10 out of 10

I finished this around midday - BUT I have the bad luck, that the next part didn´t arrive with the post today! That means I will have to wait at least till monday evening! - goodby fingernails - they will be cewed down to the flesh by then!
I continue to find the story extremly suspensefull and captivating. I could not put the book down (except to let down the shutters when marble-sized hail came down - and then only for five minutes - I suppose there was some kind of thunderstorm because at some point I hat to turn on the light around noon, but it didn´t realy register). I continue to love the charakter desciptions! - still there could be a little more about Tusk - but I suppose there will be more about him in the last part.
Since Khirsah asked to borrow the books I put them on reserved until the third and fourth part have arrived and are read and the four parts together can travel there.
I´m quite interested how Dion will develop in the next part! I don´t even start to guess how the plot will continue - I like that to be a surprise.

Edit 2012:
When I finishes reading the series Khirsah didn´t respond, so the book slumbered on my bookshelf all that time. Now it can travel on....
