Museums & the Shaping of Knowledge (The Heritage Care Preservation Management)
2 journalers for this copy...
I took a class many years ago on collections and collectors. The class was not that remarkable, mostly because the few people who took didn't seem to care much about the subject, just thought it was an easy A (it was far from that...quite demanding in fact).
This book was one of the required texts. It was hideously expensive and I thought I would never look at it again, however over the years I've opened it many times to read about the science of collecting. One chapter deals with Kunstschranke, or "cabinet of the world." These German cabinets housed museums in miniture, perfectly arranged to make sense of and order the outside world. I have always been fascinated by this idea and look for an example in every museum I visit.
This book will be released to a bookcrosser who also loves museums.
