Snaffled from the table at the meet-up before retromonkey barely unloaded the contents of her bag. I think this looks like a cross between Michel Faber and Sarah Waters so I'm interested to give this a go.

Despite taking literally years to get round to reading this I did enjoy it, although I think I've read better similar stuff. There were some interesting characters, but they weren't all fully realised, but this may be because the story was mostly from Mary's perspective so we just got her views on them. I was drawn in enough to be bothered when Mary made impetuous decisions that turned her life for the worse. Overall I would recommend this to others.
