I just recieved this book from JDT today. I've only vaguely heard of it, but BC is giving me the opportunity to stretch my literary tastes. I'll journal more upon reading. Promised to greedyreader.

Journal Entry 8 by mrsordonez from St. Louis, Missouri USA on Thursday, May 01, 2003
Like I had stated earlier, this book WAS a stretch for my literary tastes. I didn't find Hiaasen very funny, interestingly, but did note all of the irony in the book. ***spoiler, highlight with mouse to continue reading over blank area** I found that some of the deaths were extremely grotesque, like the biologist and Mr. Gash... Also, it was a little over the top that Clapley was killed by the rhino. I had that thing more dead than alive in my imagination. I would have preferred that Stout and Clapley had done each other in... Okay, back to the review. I don't think I would seek out any more Hiaasen books, but if offered, I wouldn't refuse. I oddly couldn't put this book down, perhaps because I haven't really read anything like it, and just had to see how far Twilly would go. BTW, I hated the names of the characters, they seemed too soap-opera-ish... I typically shy away from anything that has to do with the political arena, but this book was amazingly tolerable. It was about politicians, but not in a typical-politics type way. I don't know how I can explain that better. I liked the changes in narrative, they gave fresh perspective to the plot lines. Even Boodle/McGuinn was the narrator for part. (The dog, for those who haven't read it yet). Thanks for expanding my horizons! I will be sending this off to greedyreader shortly.

Just got this book in the mail -- thanks mrsordonez! Since I left my copy of Life of Pi at the hair salon today (cut off some hair [7 inches] and my brain size immediately shrunk), I might have to start this book tonight.

Journal Entry 10 by greedyreader from Oakland, New Jersey USA on Sunday, June 01, 2003
I had never read anything by this author before and was excited to get this book. I agree with most of what MrsOrdonez had to say. This was an easy and engaging read: perfect for the beach or anytime you don't need to really "think" beyond what the author puts down on the page. Since I have had a lot of other things on my mind lately (mother in the hospital, blah, blah, blah), this was perfect and I eagerly turned each page. However ... the character names stunk; I kept wondering what Gasp could do elevated in his harness above 3 naked women in bed (I guess my imagination is taken up with other things than sexual circus tricks); and the littering made no sense given Stoat's other fastidious traits (no matter what the author tried to say). And the human Barbies! The more I write, the more I wonder why I liked it so much. Oh well ... June 8th -- bagged and ready to mail to cytronella tomorrow.

The last journal entry reminded me that I have the book "The Funniest 911 Calls" or something to that extent. Should I ray it to the people who've read Sick Puppy in honor of Gash? PM if interested!

Woo Hoo!!! I really enjoy Hiaasen's realistic views on the degradation of overdevelopment in Florida . . . I'd add more about the plot, but I don't know how Mrsordonez (did I spell that right?) got that cool trick to work in her journal entry, where the comments are hidden until highlighted! I wish I did though!!!! Anyway, back to this book . . . I love Twilly Spree, and though things get out of hand, and some parts are gross, it is so worth it! I've put this book into the Pay It Forward game on the Book wish lists forum, and I'm pleased to see it got grabed up by Herrundmeyer right away. I'll be sending it on a slow boat to her in Germany . . . since it's already sick, the puppy shouldn't mind the long trip!! ;-) I'm looking forward to hearing if the themes of overdevelopment resonate with a German reader . . . enjoy!!!

After the Odyssee through the whole of the US, this little puppy has arrived safe and sound (and still sick, poor thing) on my doorstep. I'll try to cure it by burying it under a bunch of books, on the bottom of my TBR pile and I'll attend to it later. ;-) Thanks, cytronella!

Journal Entry 15 by Herrundmeyer from Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Sunday, November 09, 2003
All right, nearly three months after its arrival in Germany, this poor sick puppy has worked its way up the TBR pile. I really enjoyed this book, although I'd thought that the story couldn't be kept going for 500-odd pages [aside: anyone of the native speakers: please check on my tenses here! I'm afraid the sentence sounds strange.]. Nonetheless, apart from the grotesque scenes mentioned by previous readers, it really kept me entertained. I absolutely loved the parts in which the habits and thought patterns of Labrador retrievers were mentioned. During my semester in Dublin I lived in a family with a Labrador retriever - and most of these parts are absolutely true! I think I'll try to arrange a controlled release for this book (I don't want to risk it being lost, with so many previous journalers).

I'm just in the beginning of it. I caught it at the Goldmund Meetup from H+M earlier this month. I started it last night at the airport in Frankfurt on my way to Toulouse, and I'm sure it'll help me pass the time from Toulouse to Amsterdam and onward home. Thanks H+M!

This is just the sort of book to pass away time on a plane or train or other vehicle you don't have to drive yourself. I'll look for more Hiaasen works to use as time-killers. If this book is any indication (it's my first exposure to the author), I'll probably enjoy other works by him for the sake of giving me something to do while waiting somewhere.

I've never read any Carl Hiassen before and this was a pretty good time. The beginning promises slightly more than the end delivers, but it's enjoyable. The dog is my favorite character. Once all of our M-bags make it to the new place, it will be on it's way to FranciJo.

Journal Entry 20 by MrBones from Regensburg, Bayern Germany on Monday, July 26, 2004
Whoa, I didn´t even realize I had such a well traveled book in my hands. I picked it, a while ago, pretty much randomly from a stack of cliffs/sarahs books when I visited them in their new appartment in Regensburg. I thought it was just registered by cliff or sarah and I could easily get away with not logging it immediately. ;-) To my utter surprise there´s already 9 journalers ahead of me and even worse apparently someone´s waiting for it. Sorry FranciJo! I´m about halfway through and so far it´s an easy and very enjoyable read! More when I´m done. P.S.@ Cliff and Sarah: I´ll give you guys a call about what to do with the book when I´m finished. And did I say thank you already? No? So here goes: Thanks everybody!

Now, it really is a fun read! It keeps you entertained without being too shallow. Great characters (some are rather creepy, but still fun) combined with an exciting yet somewhat predictable plot. And I also liked the dog best! Too funny!
