Synopsis from Amazon:-
'Combe Island off the Cornish coast has a bloodstained history of piracy and cruelty but now, privately owned, it offers respite to over-stressed men and women in positions of high authority who require privacy and guaranteed security. But the peace of Combe is vilated when one of the distinguished visitors is bizarrely murdered. Adam Dalgliesh is called in to solve the mystery quickly and discreetly, but at a difficult time for him and his depleted team, who all have worries of their own. Hardly have the team began to unravel the mystery when there is a second brutal killing and the investigation is jeopardized when Dalgliesh is faced with a potentially fatal danger...This powerful novel combines all the elements P D James fans have come to expect: a vivid evocation of place, sensitive characterisation and a superbly structured plot.'
P.D. James is one of my favourite crime writers. I have been madly in love with the wonderful Adam Dalgliesh for years.

As usual an enjoyable read. I was a bit disappointed as Dalglish becomes ill towards the end of the book and so is not as involved in the action as I would have liked!! I wonder if James is wanting to focus more on the Kate charcter instead. I'm also not convinced by Dalglish's love interest, or perhaps it's jealousy!! Ideal candidate for a themed wild release at a lighthouse....

I enjoyed this. You really can't beat PD James for a closed community murder.

Caught at York BC meet-up several months ago and finally got round to reading it during a recent crime reading frenzy. My first PD James/Adam Dalgliesh. Quite enjoyed it - certainly kept me turning those pages (all 477 of them, so plenty of room for the usual tanker-load of red herrings). That said, I did get a bit irritated by the fact that most of the characters seemed strangely unrealistic. Why is it that American crime writers can create characters which I find believable even though I've never been to America, while James' ultra-bourgeois English characters seem starchy and unreal to me? Perhaps James is in fact writing 'magic realism'? Perhaps I am too Welsh? Think I'll probably return it to the next York meet-up. To the lighthouse, Woolfians!
Was left over at the BC meet, so i said I would process it!
