Sorry I jumped in on the bookring. Chocolatefishy shared with me.

This book showed me what legends our very own ancestors really are.

Ah! I loved this book, although it was different from the movie. It reminds me very much of my own family, telling stories that seem to get larger than life.

My one problem, and this might be a spoiler so I'll hide it, was that...

I didn't like the fact that the character of the father was so weak. In the movie he was a very strong man, even in his illness, but in this book he was so weak sounding all the time. And then he was unfaithful, it bothered me a lot. My favorite stories in the movie were the ones dealing with his wife, and none of those stories were in this book.

Well, I sent the book off yesterday (sorry I had it so long!) it's going to take 4-6 weeks to get to South Africa, but it's on it's way!

I enjoyed reading this, although I couldn't help feeling that it was like the outline for a much bigger story. Also, I missed the visual aspect - Tim Burton's quirky style added to the story for me. Maybe I've seen the movie too often :-)

Will send on to Hawkette by the end of the week.

Have been looking forward to this one for sometime, resisting watching the movie till I have read it.

Not as exciting, or as drawing-in as I had expected - although that said, I only managed to read it in bits and pieces!
Enjoyed the discovery of the stories and myths behind one man.

Arrived last week, sorry it took me so long to journal! I hope I'll be able to read it some time this year and keep it going after that - my daughter is 6 weeks old and I don't get much reading done lately ;) Thanks a lot SophiaZed for sending it, and twinkpudding for allowing me to be the last one in the list!
