I liked this series, but this book, as the last one, seemed a little weak. Still entertaining though. This one is on it's way to Iojima in France.

I have decided that I don't much rate Jasper Fforde and that I should stop forcing myself to read his books because I feel that I "should enjoy" them. I read the last chapter to see how it all turns out but I never finished The Well Of Lost Plots, which I had as a ray or ring. I have decided to RABCK this onto the person that is next to recieve the Well Of Lost Plots.

I enjoyed this one - perhaps not quite as much as The Well of Lost Plots, but it was entertaining in a different way - more action and a faster-moving story. The croquet sounds brilliant! Book is heading off today as a RABCK! PS As it has a car on the cover it is also released for the 2007 'Never Judge a book by its Cover' challenge - week 16 theme is Transportation.

Well it tied up everything very nicely, although there are some bits over which I'm a tad peeved. I liked this better than The Well of Lost Plots because it took place more in the 'real'/alternate world, and it was as clever and witty and funny as usual. The bits with St. Svlkzx were hilarious. Seems odd to be at the end of the series though... Passing it on...

Thanks to microsquid for passing the book on to me together with "The well of lost plots". I'll see to it that they keep travelling together. Alas, since I am fairly bombarded with bookrings at the moment, it'll take me a while to get to this one.

This series is just gettin' better and better. I liked the first book well enough, was bored out of my mind by the second, gave the third one a try and was pleasantly surprised. And I absolutely loved this last one (is it the last one? or are there more parts to come?). Although I was sad to see that this book was set in Swindon again (I like the BookWorld much better), it was half as bad as I had feared. Some of my favorite characters turned up again (Spike, Stig, Thursday's father, the Cat, Mrs. Bradshaw) and apart from a few scenes about this Kaine guy there wasn't too much boring politics involved. The way Landen was reactualized was a bit meh, and I missed a final showdown with Aornis (what became of her anyway? maybe he kept that for the next book?). Hamlet was a hoot, though. And now, finally, I begun to really like Thursday herself. In the first two books I thought she was a stuck-up bitch most of the time, but either I get used to her or she really did get more likeable. ;o) I especially enjoyed that here many things that were mentioned in passing in the other books, finally were explained (like, who this Millon de Floss guy was or what UA of W cat means). These little things were a nice touch that showed that Fforde did actually have a plan for the whole series even back when the first book was published. The only thing I found really boring in this book was the damn croquet match. I don't even watch sports on tv, much less do I want to read about it at length in an otherwise quite entertaining book (The bloody Quidditch matches were the only thing that drove me bonkers while reading Harry Potter as well.). Had that chapter been at the beginning of the book I probably would have put it aside unread. As it was I slogged through the few pages just to see how it all turned out, so it wasn't ll too bad. I must have some Neanderthal genes in me, though, because I don't understand the appeal of this kind of stuff and I could very well live in a world without any sports at all. Anyway, after that annoyance out of the way, the last scenes were beautiful and wrapped the story up nicely. Right now I wouldn't mind reading the whole package again sometime (although seeing my stack of unread books, I doubt that I will get around to that anytime soon) and I am very glad I gave the series another chance after the disappointing second book. I will keep this book travelling, hopefully together with the raybook.

I couldn't get into this book, I don't think Jasper Fforde is my style so will pass on to Hawkette with the ray book
