The first in a series which is still being written. Ender's Game is set in the distant future, when Earthlings have developed the technology to live and travel in space, but have not evolved enough to stop killing each other and other lifeforms.
This is a future in which children are trained to be killers, thinking they are playing video 'simulation' games when in actual fact they are controlling fleets of warships. Ender Wiggin is an eleven year-old who is among the best of the best. He realises he is being used as a tool - but what can he do?? You'll have to read it to find out :)
Even if Sci-Fi's not your thing, this is still a great book, with realistic, evolving characters, names you can pronounce and an involving storyline. Orson Scott Card is one of my favourite writers.
