Anne Elliot, heroine of Austen's last novel, did something we can all relate to: Long ago, she let the love of her life get away. In this case, she had allowed herself to be persuaded by a trusted family friend that the young man she loved wasn't an adequate match, social stationwise, and that Anne could do better. The novel opens some seven years after Anne sent her beau packing, and she's still alone. But then the guy she never stopped loving comes back from the sea. As always, Austen's storytelling is so confident, you can't help but allow yourself to be taken on the enjoyable journey.

Journal Entry 4 by ababaigalit from Modi'in, Israel Israel on Tuesday, January 9, 2007
Well first bookring for 2007. It arrived savely at my mailbox. It's the third book of Jane Austen that I'll read. I like the way that she wrote, I hope I will like the book as much as I liked the other two.
Thanks kiyoitsukikage for allowing be part of this bookring. Loved the idea with the post cards I'll try to find a nice one of Israel so I can put in the book. I will start the book right away so I can send it fast.

Well I finished the book yesterday night. Like all of her novels, Jane Austen's PERSUASION is essentially a comedy of manners--a work in which the characters must negotiate a complex code of conduct in order to survive, much less achieve their ends. And in a certain sense the novel is indicative of Austen's great talent, razor sharp, laced with irony and wit, and remarkably phrased. And yet PERSUASION is quite unlike Austen's other novels in the story it tells.
To tell the truth the chapter before the last was my favorite.
This novel was the last one that Austen wrote before she died. It is a more mature novel, dealing with many issues not found in Austen's previous novels. One reason why people find faults with the book is that Anne Elliot, the heroine, is not as spunky or witty as an Elizabeth Bennett or an Emma Woodhouse. There is not so much wit flowing in the dialogue between characters, or even dialogue in general. But these differences between the novels make this one so unique.

Just received in the mail today. Thanks, kiyoitsukikage, for starting up this ring and to ababaigalit for sending it on!

A bunch of rings have arrived recently but I'll start on this as soon as possible. Thanks!

Journal Entry 6 by rootmartin from Wellesley, Massachusetts USA on Monday, April 23, 2007
I really enjoyed this book! Thanks for starting this bookring. This is the third Jane Austen novel that I've read and I was quite delighted.

I apologize for keeping this a little longer than I intended. We just brought home baby #4 from the hospital and things are moving a bit slower at home than I'm used to.

Thanks again! I'm putting it in the mail to zosime today.

Journal Entry 7 by zosime from Marshfield, Wisconsin USA on Saturday, April 28, 2007
Arrived safe and sound today. Thank you! I'm reading another bookring book right now, but I'll start on this one as soon as I'm finished.

Journal Entry 8 by zosime from Marshfield, Wisconsin USA on Friday, May 11, 2007
Thank you so much for starting this ring, Kiyoitskikage! I really enjoyed this book. This is the third Jane Austen novel I have read, and I can't wait to read more. I love her characters with all their little personality quirks and hang-ups, and the way she portrays the complex, convoluted, muddled nature of social interactions is fantastic.

I'll pass this along as soon as I can. Thanks!

Journal Entry 9 by zosime from Marshfield, Wisconsin USA on Sunday, June 3, 2007
I finally mailed this on Friday. Sorry for the delay, I had some difficulty finding post cards. Of course, once I located some I started finding them everywhere.

Journal Entry 10 by valerief from Queens, New York USA on Monday, July 9, 2007
Thanks zosime! Looking forward to reading a classic. Hope to finish in a month and a half or so.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

To me, this felt almost like a twist on the Cinderella story - youngest sister who is not respected by her immeidate family gets guy. At times I find "classics" a bit tedious to read, but this one picked up at the end. The ending is a bit predictable yet enjoyable. I also enjoyed observing how the characters navigated society's various etiquette dogma.

RELEASE NOTES:

This will be sent off to sunnybrook301 in my next post office run.

Journal Entry 12 by lupingirl on Tuesday, November 6, 2007
I got it!

I will be staring on this one as soon as I finish my current read. Thanks!

Journal Entry 13 by lupingirl on Saturday, December 1, 2007
Finished this last night.

I enjoyed this one, but I have to say I liked Sense and Sensibility much better. Possibly because that was my first Austen read, or possibly because I have the biggest crush on Alan Rickman's Colonel Brandon ;)

I just found Anne to be too good and I was not as interested in her fate as I might have been if she had not been so passive.

I will send this on as soon as I hear from the next participant. Thanks for sharing it!

Journal Entry 14 by lupingirl on Tuesday, January 29, 2008
I really do apologize for holding this up - the holidays and other things just seemed to get in the way. But it's on it's way now to the next participant. Hope you enjoy it!

Oops, I finished this about a week ago (or try to finish it), and forgot to journal it. I particular did not enjoy it and couldn't get into it, so I deceided to stop reading it.

Thanks though kiyoitsukikage for letting me join this ring though and I will pass this book on to the next reader tomorrow.

Yeah! I have been waiting for this book. I do have a few rings/rays in front of it but I read fast!

I just saw this movie on the PBS Complete Jane Austen series (they borrowed the movies from BBC) and I loved this one! Can't wait to read the book - Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favorites.

Journal Entry 19 by ChiBoiler from Bargersville, Indiana USA on Tuesday, April 15, 2008
I just loved this book. Not sure if I was just in the right mood to read it or it just was that great. I had recently seen the BBC movie on PBS and it was my favorite (with the exception of the fabulous Colin Firth in Pride & Prejudice.)

Thanks kiyoitsukikage for starting this ring. I will pass it on to angela861 this weekend.

UPDATE: 4/20/2008 - I am going to drop this off to angela861 today!

Journal Entry 20 by angela861 from Chicago, Illinois USA on Monday, April 21, 2008
ChiBoiler dropped off the book yesterday. I have one ahead of it but will begin reading it soon.

LOVED IT!! I can't believe how fast I finished it... I couldn't put it down. I still think Pride and Prejudice is still my favorite but this was right up there!

Cat207 asked to be skipped so I will contact the next person in line.
