" 'I write this sitting in the kitchen sink. That is, my feet are in it; the rest of me is on the draining board...'

So begins Cassandra Mortmain's journal: an extraordinary account of life with her equally extraordinary family. First, there is her highly eccentric father. Then there is her sister, Rose - beautiful, vain and bored - and her stepmother, Topaz, an artists's model who likes to commune with nature. Finally there is Stephen, dazzlingly handsome and hopelessly in love with Cassandra. In the cold and crumbling castle which is their home, Cassandra records events with characteristic honesty, as she tries to come to terms with her own feelings. The result is both mervellously funny and genuinely moving." - back cover

An old favourite.

I only joined Bookcrossing in July and have since been amassing books at an alarming rate! I'm not going to have time to read many of them soon, so I'm offering up some of the more popular ones as rings. I'm not going to limit the participants as I've read it!

How it works
- PM me to join and state your shipping preferences.
- When I have at least 5 people, I'll post the book to the first person.
- Please journal the book when it arrives and when you've sent it on.
- When you've read it, please PM the next person on the list for their address.
- Bear in mind other people want to read it, so don't put it at the bottom of your TBR pile (6 weeks is a reasonable timeframe imo)!
- The last person on the list is to send it back to me :-)

When I have enough participants I'll sort the order to suit as many people's postage preferences as possible.

Found in the porch this morning, hidden by the postman behind a sack of potatoes along with a dvd my son had ordered .. so we're both happy now.

I finished reading I Capture the Castle this morning. In the 3 months I've been a member of BookCrossing I have been introduced to some amazing books and this one is way up there with the best of them. How Dodi Smith made me accept and grow to love the disfunctional Mortmain family I don't know! Their genteel poverty is worn with good humour and a certain pride and much of the hardship is presented as farce. I'm looking to buy my own copy in the near future. Thank you, bigcurlyloz, sincerely grateful for the introduction.

I contacted candy-is-dandy who has found her own copy, so this parcel will go in the post to beekeepeer40. Happy reading!

If I can, I'd like to see the DVD film based on the book, starring Romola Garai.
Thanks for the opportunity to read it, it is now parcelled up and ready to go off to vainilla79 in Spain.

I always meant to read this book because, one day, I found a reference to it that enchanted me.
The book is a very good reading, let our imagination flows.

Journal Entry 18 by wingAzukiwing from Miami, Florida USA on Wednesday, July 18, 2007
I really enjoy the tale. I guess because Cassandra refers to themselves as Jane Austen girls, I couldn't help feeling the story a bit Austenish. It's a lovely story, although totally not what I expect from an author whose frame is 101 Dalmatians.
Sending off to blackadder75. Sorry for the hold up as I didn't get to read it while I was out of town.

Journal Entry 19 by blackadder75 from Lebanon, Pennsylvania USA on Tuesday, July 24, 2007
Got this book in today's mail. I have one other bookray before I can read this.

Journal Entry 20 by blackadder75 from Lebanon, Pennsylvania USA on Saturday, August 4, 2007
I enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns to this love triangle of a story. I didn''t think the ending was very believable, it was just to happy ending to a story that played with the characters emotions. I will be send the book out to bartonz warly next week.

Journal Entry 21 by bartonz from Bellevue, Washington USA on Thursday, August 16, 2007
It''s here and I look forward to reading it!

Just heard the unmistakable thud as the postman delivered a book through my door and ran down to find this!

Journal Entry 27 by Izzles from Southampton, Hampshire United Kingdom on Monday, March 17, 2008
I really enjoyed the first half of this book but my attention drifted a little towards the end. I only wish I had read it when I was younger as I'm sure it would have made a bigger impression.

Just waiting to hear back from knitnurse and the book will be on its way.

UPDATE - I haven't heard back from knitnurse and chas04 now has their own copy so I shall have to make my way further down the list!

Journal Entry 28 by Izzles at Southampton, Hampshire United Kingdom on Sunday, February 2, 2014
So this was a bookcrossing ring which hit a snag and died (either no response from others on the list or they didn't want it anymore). It has been collecting dust on my shelf ever since so think it's about time I sent it on it's way...
