(From the back of the book) In settings from the Canadian North to Venice Beach, the seven stories in this collection unfold with irresistable honesty, each a gem of the storyteller's art. Tornado warnings and 3-D movies frame a boy's relationship with his unbalanced mother and absent father an old Eskimo women belives her son is trapped in a juke box; in the title story, a reckless ex-pilot brings his stubborn unrequited love to a hotel wallpapered with pages from Conrad's novels. Howard Norman - author of The Northern Lights and The Bird Artist - celebrates the extraordinary ways in which seemingly ordinary people live their lives.

I'm having a (much needed) clear out of my bookshelves and found that I didn't journal this after reading. I'm sorry, I found it interesting at the time and liked some of the stories more than others. I liked the title story and 'Old Swimmers' but the others were less memorable. it has stayed on my shelves for too long, so now it is going to find someone who will appreciate it.
To be left on the Diabetes UK table at my local Tesco.
