Patrick Scully is special. At least, he was as a child - tall for his age, talented at school and on the football field. In awe of his father, all he ever wanted was to follow him into the guards. But now his father is dead, school's over and Scully is stuck in a dead-end job in Dublin while his friends study useless degree courses. Unable to articulate his bitterness and mounting rage, the only way to turn is in. To make matters worse, everyone thinks his childhood buddy Balls O'Reilly is great crack. In fact, even Scully's girlfriend Francesca seems to be paying Balls more attention than Scully...

In a desperate attempt to numb the isolation, Scully returns to his home town for the weekend and creates a whirlwind of drinking and fighting until he nears a welcome oblivion. However he only gets as far as the hospital where he almost drowns in a flood of memories.

Picked up at Coventry meetup last Saturday. I think this would be a good one for the bookbox going to LindyB28's brother Richard, on VSO somewhere in Africa...

Passed to LyzzyBee for the BookBox For Eritrea for LindyB28's brother, who is over there on VSO. Once we have enough, we will post this over there. There should be a good mix of books for Richard to read, and books for the school children to enjoy and learn from.

Thanks for your contribution!
