The Time Traveler's Wife

This book won the Alex Award in 2004. After I read it i am going to share it with the High School book group at the Library.
This was a great book. I liked the mixture of good writing with the paradoxes involved with not being fixed in time.
I mailed this to a BXer in Amherst, NH, it should be there within a week.
Thank you so much! I recieved the book today and read the prologue at once, I think this is a book that I'll like! I wish you an excellent vacation in Europe!!
"This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare and Henry who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. His disappearances are spontaneous and his experiences are alternately harrowing and amusing.
The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's passionate love for each other with grace and humour. Their struggle to lead normal lives in the face of a force they can neither prevent nor control is intensely moving and entirely unforgettable." (adlibris.se)

I really enjoyed this novel! The message is loud and clear - take good care of the one's you love, because time together is short and precious.
At first I didn't like that Henry was the one travelling and Clare the one waiting - it was so typical to me, I didn't like to see her as another Penelope - but I think it changed through the book. Clare got the upperhand when they meet in the same time and she is the strong one, the shining star in their love story. I loved a short chapter called "The Secret" where Clare tells of the advantages of Henry's moments (minutes, hours, days) of absence. (I will not reveal what she told...) Both Henry and Clare develops as round characters, they are like real people to me, with real feelings and flaws. Even if they know a lot of their future because of Henry's travelling back and forth in time, things cannot be changed and that is sometimes hard to handle for them.
I was very moved by the final chapters of the book and I cried a bit.
Thank you so much Germanophile, for giving me a special reading experience! We are going to discuss the book in the Scandinavian Forum in September!

I really enjoyed this book - especially the last chapters of the book. They were really moving and I couldn't pu the book down. This was a different book for me to read - and I really liked this eye-opener.

I borrowed this book for a presentation about Bookcrossing. But now it is back at the bookshelf.
I decided to take this book home. I have a plan to send it to a fellow bookcrosser - but I have to do some research on their shelf first.
