I bought this a few years ago, because I loved the film so much. I haven't read it though.

Arrived today, thankyou.Accepted from schrijvertje who offered the title on www.bookrelay.com as part of 'Just Whatever' relay.
This was published way back in 1992 and I can not understand why I have never got round to reading it. Even the film is 10 years old now. So I am delighted to have got hold of a copy, it will be joining Mt TBR but hopefully not for too long.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Haunting and harrowing, as beautiful as it is disturbing, The English Patient tells the story of the entanglement of four damaged lives in an Italian monastery as the second world war ends. The exhausted nurse, Hana; the maimed thief, Caravaggio; the wary sapper, Kip: each is haunted by the riddle of the English patient, the nameless, burn victim who lies in an upstairs room and whose memories of passion, betrayal and rescue illuminate this book like flashes of sheet lightning. In lyrical prose informed by a poetic consciousness, Michael Ondaatje weaves these characters together, pulls them tight, then unravels the threads with unsettling acumen.

A challenging read as sometimes the storyline was difficult to follow but I perservered. Worth doing so because I loved the author's portrayal of the main characters.

Wow!...
Wooooow!!...

I'm kind of without words!... Totally and completely without them!
This was so nice, so sweet, so... BC like, true! But I keep finding myself amazed with these gestures and this fantastic and overwhelming spirit of this community!!...

Thank you so very much, LindyLouMac, I really do appreciate this surprise and your generous offer!
And of course, I promise to read it as soon as my TBR pile allows me and to keep the good spirit of this travelled book by sending on to someone that can appreciate it as well...

I'm really, totally and incredibly glad!
:-)

I just loved to read this book! And I'm glad I did so after seeing the movie or I wouldn't have liked to watch it as I did... the book, as usual, goes deeper into the characters and is much more poetic within the prose.
I loved to read about the deserts and the winds and it made me wish to go back once more and again... it really is addictive, as so well portrayed in this book, not beeing the centre of the storytelling.
The snapper character is much more intense and present than in the movie and makes quite a figure; almost makes you wish you could get to know Kip!
But... as there's almost always a but... there's something missing, something I can't put down in words, it's just a feeling.

Thank you once again for this beautiful present, LindyLouMac. I'll try now and find someone else with this book on their wishlist. It would be great to carry on the surprise the way you did with me... if not, I'll find some other way to keep it moving!

RELEASE NOTES:

Going out to DrCris as a surprise RABCK... I hope it will be enjoyed as much as it was when I received it...
