Journal Entry 2 by aleonblue from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Wednesday, August 30, 2006
What an absolutely wonderful surprise to come home and find this RABCK in my mailbox - and from my wishlist too - AND with a block of chocolate in the package as well! This will definitely make up for that dreadful day that I had at work today. BookCrossers always make my day with their generosity - and I really appreciate it when people check wishlists.

Thanks so much Mummafour - you've really made my day. And - I think I'll have a few more local BookCrossers interested in this book too.

Journal Entry 3 by aleonblue from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Thursday, October 5, 2006
What a wonderful read. It's a hard book to categorise, but it has overtones of the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". I decided to read the book, which is the first book in a trilogy, by Lian Hearn, before attending a session at a local bookshop with the writer.

The session was really interesting, especially to find that the author is a pseudonym for Gillian Rubenstein who writes children's books!

As well as the 3 books in the trilogy, she has just released a 4th book which "ties up the loose ends" from the trilogy, and written a 5th book which precedes the triogy - not to be released for a while yet.

The rights to make a movie of the trilogy have been bought, and a Japanese director appointed and script written for the 1st book (this one), so we may send the story on screen in the future.

This is an interesting book to try and cofine to a genre - I've seen it in bookshops and BookCrossing journals as anything from literature/fiction to historical fiction to Fantasy to Science Fiction to Childrens/Youth books. Whatever it is, it's a damned good read!

Looks like I'll have to keep an eye out for the the rest of the books in the series now!

Thanks again for the book Mummafour. I'll pass this on to anther appreciative reader who has the book on their wishlist.

Journal Entry 4 by aleonblue from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Friday, October 6, 2006
This book is on a few wishlist so I'm offering it up as an AUSTRALIAN bookring for others to read. I hope it is enjoyed by all.

What to do when you receive the book:

1. Add a journal to let us know that you’ve received it ok.
2. Send a Private message (PM) the next person to get their mailing address so there won’t be any waiting once you finish the book. If they don’t respond within 10 days, let me know if they are no longer interested or want to be moved down the list
3. PM the next reader for their address
3. Read the book within 4 weeks and then add a journal with your thoughts on the book - be honest!
4. Send the book to the next person and journal that you’ve sent it on it’s way.

What if you’re too other swamped with book commitments and it is almost my turn!? If you find yourself in this situation PM me and I’ll move you a few notches down the list, if it’s feasible.

I had just finished a book and was standing in front of my bookshelves trying to decide what to read next, when the postman arrived and made my decision for me.

Thankyou aleonblue. I like the postcard too.

Fantastic book. It is hard to categorise, it reads like a YA but isn't. Takeo is a very likeable hero. The secondary characters are well developed and add depth to the story.

I'm holding onto it until I read books 2 & 3 then sending them all on together.

Journal Entry 8 by amberC from Darwin, Northern Territory Australia on Tuesday, October 24, 2006

posting off to xoddam today!

Journal Entry 12 by xoddam from Springwood, New South Wales Australia on Monday, December 11, 2006
Thanks! Caught today at work. Will read soon(ish) -- I'm reducing my average sit-on-a-bookring statistics dramatically, but I'm still not down to the regulation 30 days. There are holidays coming up so I might just manage :-)

Journal Entry 13 by xoddam from Springwood, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, January 3, 2007
Yesss! My first bookring completed in under 30 days for many moons (took about a day and a half to read). Well actually I shouldn't count chickens until I get it posted, but I'm journalling now and I'm happy. I've only got five in hand to be read, and only two of those have to be sent on to people who haven't read them yet. I might just be winning!

This was a good fun YA-oriented coming-of-age story. To think I joined it for the sake of Prue Theroux, the cool librarian! There's only a single plot twist I didn't like, but for all I know the author manages to justify it in the sequels.

Across the Nightingale Floor is definitely a page-turner, good fun to read in quick succession after watching a bunch of historical Japanese movies (no not manga) and recently reading Memoirs of a Geisha. It seems that the sequels were travelling with it, and I'd like to read them now (I'd knock them over in no time) but I seem not to have joined those bookrings in the first place so it may be I've missed out now and messed up the sequence for the other readers. I'm hunting them down via piemunga's bookshelf now, in case I can avert disaster :-) Actually, if I don't succeed, I might go out and buy the lot and give them to a nephew of mine who devours this kind of thing (I hear he is *almost* tired of rereading Harry Potter books 1-4).

I've PM'd sunny27 and hope to have an address shortly.

Journal Entry 14 by xoddam from Springwood, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, May 13, 2007
Ha, no chance of actually forwarding within the month though: The excuse this time was that the book had to be joined by its sequels. I have read all three now and will send to sunny27 as soon as I have an address (I didn't get one the first time around).

Journal Entry 15 by xoddam from Springwood, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, May 29, 2007
This was (finally!) posted on to sunny27 last week. Sincere apologies for the delay.

A reminder -- this is travelling together with Grass for His Pillow and Brilliance of the Moon. Do try to send all three when you're done!

Journal Entry 16 by sunny27 from Gympie, Queensland Australia on Wednesday, May 30, 2007
Arrived safely together with the other 2 in the trilogy. I've heard really good things about these books, so I'm looking forward to them immensely.

Journal Entry 17 by sunny27 from Gympie, Queensland Australia on Monday, July 2, 2007
I absolutely adored this book! It's a classic story of love, betrayal, revenge - all the good stuff that keeps us awake at night with a good book. There's something about the way it's written, though, that was thoroughly absorbing and even though it's not too heavy on descriptive text I could picture the characters and the settings as though I'd dreamt about them (probably was!).

I've moved on to the second book now, which is just as good but has a different quality about it. Perhaps it's the perspective of the characters that has changed and the writing is reflective of that.

Anyway, I'm so pleased to have joined this ring and particularly grateful to have the trilogy to read back to back. In the interest of keeping the ring moving, I'm going to contact the next person on the list and give them the option of starting the first one now and recieving the others later.
