Registered as part of the surprise-classics-ring-thing!

Blurb from the cover:
In Mackenzie's hugely popular novel of 1771, the sentimental hero's capacity for fine feeling reveals his true virtue. A series of episodes demonstrates Harley's benevolence in an uncaring world as he assists the down-trodden, loses his love, and fails to achieve worldly success. The novel asks a series of vital questions: What morality is possible in a complex commercial world? Does trying to maintain it make you a saint or a fool? Can sentiment bond society or is it merely a luxury for the leisured classes?

I first read this book as part of my undergrad final exams preparation. I'd heard a lot about it, and I loved every page of it when I finally read it. Hope you like it too :-) Goethe read it before writing 'Werther', and - believe it or not! - it inaugurated a long-lasting vogue for a new kind of hero, "the man of feeling", a sensitive male.

Rules:
- please journal the book when you get it
- have fun reading it°
- when you've finished, please PM the next person on the list. If they ask to be skipped (for whatever reason), PM the next person after them.
- please, and I know this is going to sound weird, keep the book for at least four weeks before you send it on to give slower readers the chance to catch up without having the next three instalments to worry about. Don't worry if you need longer – some of the classics can be quite difficult to get into… And surface mail is absolutely fine!
- make a journal entry when you're sending it on.
- ENJOY!

Found at Le Crobag bookshelf, main railway station Cologne, today.

Thanks to the German railway company, which turned my planned one-hour journey into a 3.5 hour trip, seeing as all the trains were delayed, I was able to read the book on the train. Enjoyed it a lot!
Released the book at my destination in Bochum, Germany, at a local Give Box.
