I bought this book from my local library sale - specifically for BC purposes. This is a hardback copy.

Synopsis from the book:
On a winter morning in Leyton in London's East End the locals are confronted with the incongruous sight of a white horse skidding through the sooty snow, carrying what looks like a Christmas tree on its back. It turns out to be a man covered in tinsel, with pearls suspended from a cartoon-sized turban on his head. The urbane Deepak, a successful entrepreneur, is on his way to get married. As he trudges along he consoles himself with the thought that marrying Chila, a nice Punjabi girl (a choice which has amazed, then delighted, his parents), does not mean he needs to become his father, take up religion, grow nostril hair or wear pastel-coloured leisure wear.
Life isn't all ha ha hee hee is the story of Deepak's bride, the childlike Chila, and her two childhood friends: Sunita, the former activist law student, now an overweight depressed housewife and mother, and the chic, beautiful Tania, who has rejected marriage in favour of a high-powered career in television and life in a trendy North London flat with her English boyfiend. Hilarious yet thoughtful, this is a moving novel of friendship, marriage and betrayal, and the difficult choices today's women have to make.

INTERNATIONAL BOOKRAY

This book is about to begin its travels.
You should send the book to the person who appears after you in the list, so you need to PM them to get their address!

It's not a race, but please read and send the book on as speedily as you can, so that the other people in the ray can read it too. Usually 4 weeks is considered to be the amount of time that a book should be held by each individual.

Please journal the book once you have received it (so we all know where it currently is) and again when you have read it (so we know what you thought of it!) Please do not feel that you must read the book to the end, if you dislike it, then add your journal entry and send it to the next person in the ray. Release the book using Controlled Release (by post or by hand, next person in ring etc.......) or by submitting a Journal Entry.

If you're the last person on the list (i.e. we run out of members) the last person decides what to do next with the book!

I was quarter of the way through the book when I thought it sounded familiar and realised I had seen it on television a while ago. I remember I thoroughly enjoyed the series but found myself flicking through the book and not reading it as thoroughly as I usually do. I think seeing the series probably ruined it for me.
