I purchased this book to help support the Summit County, Colorado Senior Citizen's Rummage sale. Enjoy the book! :)

SYNOPSIS
Meet Dexter Morgan. He's a highly respected lab technician specializing in blood spatter for the Miami Dade Police Department. He's a handsome, though reluctant, ladies' man. He's polite, says all the right things, and rarely calls attention to himself. He's also a sociopathic serial killer whose "Dark Passenger" drives him to commit the occasional dismemberment.

Mind you, Dexter's the good guy in this story.

Adopted at the age of four after an unnamed tragedy left him orphaned, Dexter's learned, with help from his pragmatic policeman father, to channel his "gift," killing only those who deal in death themselves. But when a new serial killer starts working in Miami, staging elaborately grisly scenes that are, to Dexter, an obvious attempt at communication from one monster to another, the eponymous protagonist finds himself at a loss. Should he help his policewoman sister Deborah earn a promotion to the Homicide desk by finding the fiend? Or should he locate this new killer himself, so he can express his admiration for the other's "art?" Or is it possible that psycho Dexter himself, admittedly not the most balanced of fellows, is finally going completely insane and committing these messy crimes himself?

Journal Entry 6 by amberC from Darwin, Northern Territory Australia on Friday, April 20, 2007
What a polite, charming serial killer!

I loved this book. Having the story told from the point of view of the serial killer was great.I liked the way Dexter's history gradually unfolded giving you more understanding of why Dexter is the way he is.

I will definately be looking for the next Dexter.

Posting to chambejd tomorrow. Dexter will be travelling by slow boat.

Journal Entry 7 by chambejd from Millbury, Massachusetts USA on Thursday, July 5, 2007
It finally arrived today! My boyfriend and I are both looking forward to reading this. We love the TV show!!!! Thanks!

Journal Entry 8 by chambejd from Millbury, Massachusetts USA on Wednesday, July 18, 2007
I finished this book up last night. While I did enjoy it a lot, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the TV show first. I absolutely LOVE the TV series which is very similar to the book but with several added story lines and twists.

Journal Entry 9 by chambejd from Millbury, Massachusetts USA on Sunday, July 29, 2007
My boyfriend enjoyed this book but also thought that the show overshadows the book.

I mailed this book yesterday to karenzero. Thanks for sharing this book with us!

Journal Entry 10 by KarenZero from Maplewood, New Jersey USA on Thursday, August 2, 2007
Arrived safely! I already started reading it.

Journal Entry 11 by KarenZero from Maplewood, New Jersey USA on Monday, August 6, 2007
This was entertaining! I am interested now in reading the sequel and seeing how the TV show matches up. Wouldn't it be nice if serial killers just killed each other instead of nice folks? Oh well.

Will send to Olered as soon as I get an addy.

8/13: PM'ed again for address.
8/19: received addy, will mail out 8/24 (am on vacation) :)
8/24: Mailed out today!!

On to Olered!

Journal Entry 13 by olered from Salem, Oregon USA on Monday, August 27, 2007
I received the book in today's mail and have one to finish first - I am excited to read about Dexter and didn't realize there was a TV show, am always glad to read the book first. Thank you KarenZero (and DreamSE22 for initiating the ring).

Journal Entry 14 by olered from Salem, Oregon USA on Monday, September 10, 2007
This was a quick interesting read...I'm glad I did read it....I won't need to read any sequals however. Enough cut'em ups is enough! Thanks for having me in the ring. I'm contacting ibis3.

This book was mailed on September 20th - first class to Ibis3. It was supposed to arrive within five days. The customs form was # LC194839200US. I mailed one to Germany at the same time and it arrived on September 28th. I think there is a problem.

Journal Entry 15 by Ibis3 from Newcastle, Ontario Canada on Sunday, October 21, 2007
Got from the mailbox today. It must have arrived some time this week, but I'm not sure why it took so long. Package looked intact and everything. Will read soon.

Journal Entry 16 by Ibis3 from Newcastle, Ontario Canada on Monday, October 22, 2007
Well, I said soon and that turned out to be sooner than I thought. Read it last night in one sitting. I really enjoyed it and two of my fictional characters who share a bit of space in *my* head (one a complete psychopath and the other a man who has lots of emotion and sensitivity but with a disassociated sadistic streak as well) took some pleasure in eavesdropping. I'm definitely going to read the sequels and seek out the tv show to see whether I like that too.

I think my favourite element was the humour and I also liked his occasional confusion about what 'real humans' would feel or how they'd act. The identity of the killer was a *bit* of a stretch, but for a first effort I can certainly give that a pass. **spoiler ahead** Looking forward to seeing how Deb will handle knowing her brother is a killer... **end spoiler**

Thanks for sharing! It might be a week or two before I make another trip to the post office, but I'll PM cheli-garza soon.

ETA: I've PM'd cheli-garza a couple of times with no response. I'll try a third time and do an ISO post, but there's been no activity on her account for a little over a month, so maybe she's busy with RL stuff lately.

Journal Entry 17 by Ibis3 from Newcastle, Ontario Canada on Friday, December 7, 2007
Sent to cheli-garza today.

Journal Entry 18 by cheli-garza from Dallas, Texas USA on Monday, December 24, 2007
This was a pleasant surprise when I checked the mail yesterday. Thanks for letting me share in this! (Has anyone watched the series on Showtime?) I'd hate to get hooked on Dexter and then not have the channel!

KarenZero, I just saw your journal entry. You're right, it would "be nice if serial killers just killed each other instead of nice folks." :) The world would be a nicer place to live, wouldn't it? Well, if not nicer, at least safer for the majority!

Journal Entry 19 by cheli-garza from Dallas, Texas USA on Tuesday, January 1, 2008
What an addictive little book! Despite feeling nauseous, achy, and downright icky, I still couldn't help reading the whole thing. Don't worry, it's nothing contagious. I think the nauseous and icky feelings came from reading some of the more descriptive, or should I say insinuative, parts of the book. (Is insinuative a word?) Anyhow, after finishing it, I felt much better.

Now I can't wait to read the second and third books in this series. It is a series, right? It would be terrible for the books to come to an end so soon after I got hooked.

Sort of spoiler following... The very last chapter was totally cracked me up. Where Dexter kept saying, "Oh, Deborah" when he was at the funeral. He's a nut. Totally lovable, in a sociopathic way.

I'm PMing Seamonkey so this should go out in the mail in just a few days.

Journal Entry 20 by cheli-garza from Dallas, Texas USA on Thursday, January 3, 2008
This will be mailed out to seamonkey in the morning (if I wake up early) or Saturday. Probably on Saturday.

Journal Entry 21 by SeamonkeyofTVCH from Fountain Valley, California USA on Tuesday, January 8, 2008
YAY, this book arrived in the mail today from Cheli-Garza; thanks so much!

I'll start this as soon as I finish my current book.

I'm a huge fan of Dexter on Showtime and anyone not getting Showtime, I'm pretty sure, can get the first season DVD, or rent it. The show is exquisitely done..

====

Finished other book, finished this quickly. Of course the end doesn't jibe with the tv series, but I "heard" the book in "Dexter's" tv voice.

Thanks so much, Collectorkerri!!

I've PM'd you so I can return the book to you.

ETA: Addendum on 01/23/2008: The first season of Dexter will be running on network TV (due to the writers' strike, I assume). I think it will be run on CBS stations.
