From the back cover:

"'Bushnell's beat is that demi-monde of nightclubs, bars, restaurants and parties where the rich come into contact with the infamous, the famous with the wannabes and the publicity-hungry with the gossip-peddlers' EVENING STANDARD

Wildly funny, unexpectedly poignant, wickedly observant, SEX AND THE CITY blazes a glorious, drunken cocktail trail through New York, as Candace Bushnell, columnist and social critic par excellence, trips on her Manolo Blahnik kitten heels from the Baby Doll Lounge to the Bowery Bar. An Armistead Maupin for the real world, she has the gift of assembling a huge and irresistible cast of freaks and wonders, while remaining faithful to her hard core of friends and fans: those glamorous, rebellious, crazy single women, too close to forty, who are trying hard not to turn from the Audrey Hepburn of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S into the Glen Close of FATAL ATTRACTION, and are - still - looking for love."

This book has been in my personal collection for quite a while and I loved it! I have decided however, to let go of more books, so I am starting a bookring for this one. Want to join? Please PM me your shipping preferences and I'll add you to the list.

I finished this last night and am not sure what to think. The content was quite interesting but I really struggled with her writing style. I tended to lose overview over who is who a bit. STill, glad I read it and hope I am more successful with the next one! Will pm classicfox for address.

I hated the TV show at first, and got used to it eventually, so when I started reading the book and found out I did not like it so much, I expected it would be the same, and went on... But I struggled with it all along. :( Pity, as I had been wanting to read it for a long time. But thanks for sharing it via a ring, michelle 1977!

I already have the next person's address, so the book should be out sometime this week.

I really did not enjoy this book. I was very confused by the barrage of characters and felt no connection to anyone so it became a collection of exploits that did not interest me. I am dropping it in the mail to the next reader. I hope they like it more than I did.

Thanks michelle 1977 for the opportunity to read this book.

I am not sure what to think of this book. I loved the TV series and I think that my love for the show may have influenced how I viewed the book. I may have enjoyed the book more, if I had never watched the show. They are very different. I found the characters cold and difficult to like. They almost seemed like characters out of a Bret Easton Ellis novel...but not nearly as much fun. I did find many of parts of the book had been used in the TV show and it was interesting to see where they made changes. A few parts had me laughing, but most of the book was difficult to get into. I have another Bushnell novel sitting on my shelf wait to be read and I can't wait to see if I will enjoy it.

I had been wanting to read "Sex and the City" for a long time. Thank you to Michelle77 for sharing. I will be mailing this off to the next reader on Saturday, if not sooner. Thank you!!!

I was very disappointed with this book. I love the TV show and felt that the book lacked something. I didn't cared about the characters, there were just too many of them. You really didn't get a sense of who they were. I also had trouble with the writting style. Thanks for including me in the bookring. I will be sending it to Bibliocrates early next week.

I caught this book in my mailbox today. Thank you for sending it my way blackadder75.

I just watched the E True Hollywood Story of Sex and the City and can't wait to read this book to see how it compares to the HBO series.

Well, I finally finished this book! I had to force myself to get through it, kept setting it aside, skimmed through most of it toward the end. Some of the
stories were amusing, but it was just not at all what I expected. I was very disappointed. I've seen every episode of Sex and the City and I was surprised to find that the HBO series was so loosely based on the book. The show was much better, loved it!

Thanks for sharing this book michelle1977. I will pass it along to Frangipani04 as soon as I can, would have preferred to ship within the US.

I agree with the previous opinions. I enjoyed the TV series a lot, specially because of the way the characters were built and of the way you could identify with some aspects of their life. That was the very opposite of what I thought of the book: you have to live in New York to understand a lot of things in the book, there is no connection between the stories, the characters are not appealing at all...

But thanks for the opportunity to read it, michelle1977. I was quite curious about the book. I've already asked for kiyoitsukikage's address.
