It's been a while since I read an Elmore Leonard novel - not sure why because I always enjoy him. This one has been sitting on my TBR shelf for almost 4 years! Leonard is one of the greats as far as weird storylines and characters - right up there with one of my other favorites - Carl Hiaasen. The plot line for "Tishomingo Blues" includes a high diver, Civil War reenactors, an Indian ex-baseball player, members of the "Dixie Mafia", and an African-American gangster fond of the blues. Leonard pulls this all together into a plot that would be very difficult to describe. However, it works! Some of this was quite hilarious and outrageous. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend this one!

This novel is pure Leonard.
A fast paced story about a diver, some mobsters, a few ladies and a man who'll tell you all about his time as a baseball player, a story that twists and turns until it ends up in an American Civil War recreated battle, and it all makes perfect sense.
The characters are well crafted and the plot is tight and very plausible and in the most weird way the action is really engaging for the reader.
There's hardly an author that I've read that can do what Elmore Leonard does (time after time) great humor, solid characters and a fast pace and a way a making the reader feel good for rooting for the vilain.
Worth the read.
