One of the things I love most about America, is bonafide southern cooking and Miss Deen is an authority, her dishes, at times sinful always delightful de-lovely and de-lectable, even her lemonade recipe is utopic. And everything tastes just as good as it looks on the telly!
I am making this a cookring~
inspired by Miss bluehawaii's Giada ring :)

This book has so many delicious looking recipes! I haven't had a lot of time to cook in the past weeks so only got the chance to try out two recipes so there are plenty more for everyone else and wanted to pass the book on so others could enjoy! I copied down some recipes too so will hopefully get a chance to try them soon.

I tried:

Cream of Broccoli and Cauliflower Soup:
I love both broccoli and cauliflower. This recipe was pretty good, don't be afraid of the bright green color. The swiss cheese really makes the soup so definitely include that.

Green Chili Corn Muffins:
These turned out differently than I expected - they were a bit greasier than I thought they would be, but still very tasty. I loved the mix of the cheese and the green chilies.

Thank you so much for sharing the cookbook with us!! I will send it off as soon as I hear from bookpatch :)

Wow! that was fast...it's here already! Mmmmm, my mouth is watering as I read over these recipes. I already see three or four I'm definitely going to have to try. Thanks for the sweet note, bluehawaii.

Judging by the amounts of mayonaise and bisquick called for in many of the recipes, I'd judge Paula Deen to be a pretty down to earth cook (although there's some fairly fancy recipes in here too). I liked her folksy writing style in this cookbook as well. For instance, introducing Paula’s Ultimate Oatmeal Cookies, she says,"I made these for my TV show and could have eaten the whole plateful myself. And I just about did!"

And speaking of her oatmeal cookies: very, very tasty. At first I wasn’t going to bother with the brown butter icing but glad I did, it added just the right amount of oomph that nudged the recipe from good to very good. I do think the texture could have been better, though. Don’t tell Paula (you know how she is about her butter) but I think next time I would increase the shortening and decrease the butter to see if I could get a little sturdier cookie.

I also made Rosemary and Garlic Roasted New Potatoes (wonderfully fragrant) and Cranberry Pineapple Gelatin Salad. Okay, jello isn’t one of the “cool” foods anymore but it appeals to my plebian taste buds :-) This one turned out so well I’ve been eating it for breakfast.

Thanks for sharing. Sent off to KarenZero today, enjoy!

Caught! I am looking forward to looking at this. I've been to Paula Deen's "Lady and Sons" restaurant in Savannah, GA and have a couple of her other Lady & Sons cookbooks. I will probably be trying the desserts in this book. More to follow!

March: Wow, I didn't realise I've had this for so long! Sorry! At least I am the last one. I will figure out what to do with this shortly.

I made the Strawberry Delight, which was very simple (and very fattening). I brought it to a potluck and it seemed to have been enjoyed by all!

Edit: Here is the current shipping list:

lilmztaz South Carolina
macewoman
nomijo
zosime
pammykn
olered an Oregonian who will ship Usa and great white north
and then back home to mum thebowiefollies still accepting minions!!

This arrived in today's mail. When my seven year old finds out Paula Deen is in the house, we're sure to have an ooey gooey time together. ;) I'll likely start with the recipes on the sticky pages.

I am so very sorry! I didn't realize there was anyone on this ring after me. Today I peeked at TheBowieFollies page and found a list of participants! I am mailing this off in tomorrow's mail to lilmztaz. I enjoyed reading this book and drooling at the pictures. It's too rich for us for everyday cookign, but I will be copying a few for our next party. I will also give her peach pickles a try next fall when peaches are in season.

Thank you for letting me borrow this, and again I am sorry for having it so long.

picked 2 that I need to try

Journal Entry 11 by macewoman from Winston Salem, North Carolina USA on Sunday, May 11, 2008
This arrived a couple of days ago. My computer is still down, so I was delayed writing a JE. But I've, of course, had time to start drooling over some of the recipes. Can't wait to try some.

Okay, I've drooled over this cookbook for long enough. The family was a fan of the squash casserole recipe. I will keep my eyes open at the local thrift store and see if a copy comes in.
Nomijo asked to be skipped, so this book is on the way to zosime. Thanks to all for passing it on to me.

Arrived safe and sound. Looks like there a lot of tasty autumn recipes in here, should have fun with them.

Loved the Garlic Cheese Biscuits, reminded me of the Cheddar Bay Biscuits at Red Lobster. Mmmm. Must be all the butter. The Artichoke Rice Salad With(out) Shrimp was great. I preferred it as a hot casserole, but it's tasty both ways. The Marinated Tomatoes had promise, but were much too oily for my taste. Left me with a tummy ache and bad feelings towards tomatoes. I'll e-mail for the next address and maybe I'll have time to try a few more dishes before I send it along.

pammykn was too quick sending me her address, so I packed the cookbook up this morning and took it to the post office. =)

Looking forward to perusing and trying a recipe or too. Thanks!

Paula arrived today -- the post office may have held her up a day or two because of the unusual snow here the last two weeks. I'm so excited. Am trying to lose a few pounds but that will have to take a back seat to a few of her recipes. Yum!
