"For Kate Klein, the unsolved murder of a fellow mother is the most intersting thing to happen since the neighbours cracked their sceptic tank. Up until then ife in surburbia has been distinctly underwhelming. Her once-loving husband is hardly ever home. The supermums on the playground routinely snub her and her days are filled with empty routine. At night, most of her orgasms are of the do-it-yourself variety.

So, on MOndays, Wednesdays and Fridays, when her kids are in nursery school, Kate launches a murder investigation of her own. With the help of her best friend, Janie, and former flame, Evan, she is drawn deep into the dead woman's double life. Suddenly surburbia is not so ordinary after all.

Engrossing, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny, Goodnight Nobody is another unputdownable, sparkling tale; a quick-witted mystery with a great heart and a narrator you'll never forget."

Journal Entry 5 by KathyS from Ramsey, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Monday, October 2, 2006
I enjoyed this book. The down-to-earth descriptions of motherhood rang so true, as did her worries about fitting in with the other local mothers in the playground. It's just a pity that I didn't find the murder/thriller aspect of the story as realistic. It was fun to see Katie turn into a modern day Miss Marple but it wasn't entirely believable. But I liked Katie and Janie and would certainly read a sequel. I need to know what happened with Ben and Evan and what the future holds for Katie.

I shall get the book moving to the next reader, Elina, as soon as possible if the PM system allows my messages through!! Thanks for sharing beekeeper40

Goodnight Nobody is now safely with me in Oulu, Finland. Currently I'm reading another bookring book, but I'll try to finish it asap and then start reading this one. Thanks to Beekeeper40 for organising this ring and to KathyS for sending this book to me.

Now I'm back for my little autumn break and also just finished this book. It was a nice, easy read, but not really laugh-out-loud funny as stated on the cover. I really liked Kate and Janie and like KathyS I'd definitely read a sequel. The story of Kate was left so open in the end that I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a sequel on the way. As soon as I get Hetku77's address this book will be traveling south to Nokia.

22.11. I received the book today, thanks Elina!

19.1. I started reading the book.

22.2. I finished the book today (I will write a proper review later). I contacted Amberkatze, but she replied that she's not signed up for this ring and actually has a ring of her own running for this book. I pmed Penelopewanders now and I'm waiting for a reply.

The review I promised... I've read two books (Good in Bed and Little Earthquakes) by Jennifer Weiner before, and this one tried to be a bit different type of chicklit with a little thriller aspect. Unfortunately in my opinion it didn't succeed. Maybe that's why it took me a month to read the book. The main character, Kate, annoyed me really badly in the beginning, but it got a little better towards the end of the book. First of all it seemed that she had married her husband for wrong reasons and to me it seemed that she kept whining how her life had became so boring and unsatisfying because of him. The problems of their marriage and lack of communication were so obvious, and she didn't seem to realize her part, only what her husband had done wrong. I'm not a mother myself, but I can imagine life with small children to be exhausting and frustrating to put it mildly and you get pressure on how you should act and behave to be a good mother from the surroundings more than enough. But a relationship works in two directions and in the end only you and yourself are responsible of your life and decisions. I think Kate really needed to do some growing up. The thriller aspect wasn't so believable either, so I think Weiner should stick with classic chicklit.

5.3. Mailed to Penelopewanders - sorry for the delay!

Ok, this arrived this weekend. I can't start reading it immediately because of things I have to read first for work, but hope to have it read and sent on in a few weeks. I've only read Good in Bed by this author (I continued the bookray that ended with me and it is still going, if anyone hasn't read it and wants to join, just PM me...). I enjoyed that one and look forward to discovering another facette of this author.
Thanks so much for making this book available.

RELEASE NOTES:

So, this was indeed very different from Good in Bed, the only other book by her I'd read. On the one hand I was a bit frustrated by the ending, and on the other hand, while grumbling, I had to admit that that is so often the way it is, just not entirely satisfying, not always clear what choices need to be made. I agree her reasons for marrying the man she did were pretty pathetic, and she acted with great immaturity, but I guess these things happen too. The book is now on its way to Poland. Thanks so much for making it available.

the book is here! Thanks!!!

Journal Entry 13 by kiyoitsukikage from Brixton, Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, May 4, 2007
In the beginning I kind of suspected it to be a crime story set in a Stepford-wives-like environment, but the book turned out to be less funny than I expected it to be... I found many things very sad there- Kate's marriage and her love for Evan, Kitty's life... Also, I hoped Kate would leave her husband in the end :P Anyhow, the book was quite enoyable. Thanks for sharing!
I am now waiting for the next person's address.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit different than Jennifer Weiner's other books, those that I've read anyway (Good in Bed is in my TBR now). I agree with others that Kate married her husband for the wrong reasons, but unfortunately a lot of us do that - I'm just as guilty. I was hoping to find out how things would end up with her marriage, and since it was kind of left open I just made it up in my own head -- I think getting back with Evan would be a horrible mistake, and Ben loves her so I like to think she realized that she loves him also and decides to give him another shot.

This will now be headed off to missprisy!

Thank you for sharing beekeeper40 & Aramena, I really enjoyed the story of detective Kate and her friend Janie. The mystery of Kitty's death was enjoyable and I was suprised to find out why she was killed. I had also hoped that Kate and Evan would get together, but it was hard to say who she went for in the end. I have angelfirestar's mailing address and will get this in the mail by tomorrow.
