Got this in the mail today.

Thank you so much for the wonderful act of kindness. I *adore* lighthouses and I am in love with Scotland. I also read Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson earlier this year, so I'm eager to tackle this one as soon as I get through a few bookring books first. I'll make sure it moves on to a good home when I'm done with it.

I'm also in awe of your book-stamping technique. I can never get my stamping to look as good. Nicely done! And thanks again!

I just finished this today. It was... quite interesting.

I think this quote from the last page sums it up well: These were my stories- flashes across time.

I usually enjoy reading stories that are told in strange ways or with non-linear narratives. However, I found this one a little difficult to follow at times- probably because it was so poetic in nature... without a set form. Which was beautiful, don't get me wrong. I loved the tone and the feel of the story... I just had trouble following this at times. I couldn't tell whether I was supposed to take parts at face value or whether what I was reading were metaphors/symbols.

Story-telling aside, I enjoyed the story quite a lot. The characters were interesting and easy to sympathize with, and I genuinely cared about what happened to them all- and what things to have happen! From adultery to loss to searching for an identity to searching for love... with so many tales being weaved together beautifully... a good read. And I'm VERY glad I read works by Robert Louis Stevenson first, or I would have missed some of the parallels and literary allusions.

Wow! What a lovely surprise to get a book in the post... and all the way from California and as part of a tartan week challenge! All very fitting. One of my colleagues was quite involved in Tartan Week in NY last month!
I'm looking forward to reading this - I love Jeanette Winterson's writing. I've not read any Robert Louis Stevenson yet though, so perhaps will miss out on literary allusions.
Thank you KateKintail!
