Magical. I don't know why I haven't read anymore of Garcia-Marquez's books. Must do something about that.

From a literary point of view this is an excellent book. Sometimes it was tough for me to get through. I am usually a fast reader but I found that I had to slow down to to absorb the atmosphere of the book. It is not my usual type of book, but I'm glad I read it. I will be mailing it to "pgsahm" at the end of the week.

Journal Entry 8 by Cray17 from Hillsborough, New Jersey USA on Sunday, August 24, 2003
This was a beautifully written story - almost a love triangle. Honestly, I wasn't sure how I felt about Dr. Juvenal Urbino or the book for the first 15 or 20 pages. But I stayed with it and I fell in love with the love story of the young dreamer, Florentino Ariza and his true love Fermina Daza. I found the love story of Dr. Urbino and his wife, Fermina Daza equally compelling. I will move the book on to the next reader in the ring.

Not my favorite, but I'm learning that Marquez has a strange affect on me. I read 100 Years of Solitude and kept wondering when I would actually begin piecing together everything that was going on. This book wasn't difficult, just a little dragging at times. I found his poetic writing enchanting, but I also thought that I would go crazy if I had to read one more page about the tragic life of Florentino...poor guy. I'm really glad I read the book though! Mailing out to squirrel818 today...12/11/03.

I''m usually a fast reader, but this took me almost 4 months to slog through. I love the flowery prose and overall literary style, but wow, that was a lot of detail! This is the kind of book best digested on a lazy vacation in the tropics, and not during an extremely busy summer in the City :) I''m glad to have read it, but I think I''m too cynical to be terribly moved by the story. Should be traveling again soon!
