First book of The Merlin Codex. Very distinctively Holdstockian. May not have much to do with actual ancient culture, but is not an obvious reflection of modern Western history either -- no remnants of the 19th century here. Holdstock has a deep and rich imagination, and this is really well written.

Oooo just received this unexpectedly - thank you very much Vasha! I haven't read Holdstock before but the reviews sounded really interesting - put this on my wishlist ages back because mythology is something of a favourite and I am partial to a bit of Arthuriana, so am looking forward to reading it. I always like trying a new author!
