From a renowned horsewoman and gifted storyteller comes this groundbreaking new book that explores a powerful relationship like no other: the magical kinship between women and horses.

Drawing from myth and literature, the author’s own experiences, and interviews with countless women, we learn, through women’s deeply personal stories, how horses enrich our lives and connect us to nature–making us readers of rhythm and invisible signs, helping us harness our youthful sexuality, sharing the “horsepower” we need to reach our dreams. And here we see how, for thousands of years, the deep kinship between women and horses has connected us to our most intimate feelings of delight, helped us learn to solve problems, and set our creativity free.

From the poetry of Geoffrey Chaucer to the fiction of Jane Austen to folktales from around the world, She Flies Without Wings uses great literature and myth to encompass a wide spectrum of beliefs and perspectives–and creates a true celebration of speed, air, and the spectacular animal that connects us with both.

Filled with the moving lessons–-about sensuality, commitment, power, nurturance, and spirituality–women riders have known for centuries, written with a loving hand by an expert equestrian, She Flies Without Wings is an eloquent paean to a pairing that enlivened history, inspired literature, and continues to enchant us all.

Would like to turn this book into a book ray. I'm sure that there are some horse lovers out there who would loveto read this book. It was a wonderful book that I read several years ago. Found this one in a thrift store and couldn't pass it up!

To help ensure that things run smoothly (or that is the plan
anyhow), I've put together a few rough guidelines for this one. I
know that some people take longer to read a book (busy, got a bunch
of books to read before, work, etc)...

1. Please try to have this book read within 3 weeks. I know this
isn't possible, but if you make an effort to try that is all I can
ask.

2. Please journal when you receive the book.

3. When about halfway through, please contact the next person on the
list for their mailing address.

4. Please journal again when you've read the book and it is on its
way.

5. Have fun! Reading is supposed to be fun!

6. To the last person in the ray: Please keep this book moving... RABCK it, give it to a friend, etc... just please keep it moving once you're done reading it. Thanks!

I will be sending this book off to Utah tomorrow. I really enjoyed it, and it arrived at a time when I had a break between my classes so I could read without guilt :-) This is a fabulous book, I'd recommend it to any horse loving woman.

oh, my goddess, i am sooo sorry-- I can't believe I didn't journal receipt of this beautiful book--i thought i had......i shall give myself 20 lashes with a riding crop....
due to work, I didn't get to this as quickly as I wanted, but I started bit by lovely bit, then took 2 days off between shows and immersed myself...if you can't tell already, i LOVED this book! Midkiff's writing touches the soul, just as do the horses she writes of, as all the horses we have known have touched us, be they the fictional Mistys and Black Beautys, or the living breathing horses whose scent has filled our hearts and beings as we groom and ride them. This book will go on my wishlist, as I would love to have a pc that I can just pick up and open at random...........thank you, goalliegirl, for sharing this with us!

I pm'd booknhand a week ago, but guess i'd better try again, in case it didn't go thru. I'll pack this right up, so that it's ready to go as soon as I have an address.

This book took me longer to read than I anticipated - partly because of the busy holiday season and partly because it didn't grab me like I thought it would.

Some of it I related to and some of it was too transformative for me. I love horses and have since I was a child, but they aren't and never were my life as described in this book.

Horses definitely have lessons to teach us and I learned a few new ones from reading this book. I just couldn't put myself in the same reality as the reader.

Thanks for sharing it, I AM glad I had the opportunity to read it, despite my lukewarm reaction to it.

Will be PMing for sunbugs address.
