Journal Entry 4 by cyber-librarian from Cary, North Carolina USA on Tuesday, August 01, 2006
I received this book today from shorty04 in KY ... as part of a bookray. I will read it quickly and send it on. c. 2003 -- 446 pages -- Paperback -- A Main Selection of The Literary Guild, Doubleday Book Club, and Mystery Guild -- The NY Times Bestseller -- 2 weeks on the USA Today top-10 Bestseller list: #7 on 10/31/04 #8 on 11/7/04 Back Cover: Every gift has a price. "The dead don't talk. I don't know why." But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Meet Odd Thomas, the unassuming young hero of Dean Koontz's dazzling NY Times bestseller, a gallant sentinel at the crossroads of life and death who offers up his heart in these pages and will forever capture yours. Sometimes the silent souls who seek Odd out want justice. Occasionally their otherworldly tips help him prevent a crime. But this time it's different. A stranger comes to Pico Mundo, accompanied by a horde of hyena-like shades who herald an imminent catastrophe. Aided by his soul mate, Stormy Llewellyn, and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Odd will race against time to thwart the gathering evil. His account of destiny converge, is a testament by which to live -- an unforgettable fable for our time destined to rank among Dean Koontz's most enduring works.

Vintage Koontz--the small town, weird goings-on, anti-hero of a main character. Despite the fact that not a lot actually happens during this book, I still found myself turning pages. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. Off to southernfryed tomorrow.

This book has an interesting story but like AlterEgoZoe said it never really grabbed me. I think the story could have been told with half the words and been just as good. This book is now on its way to jennikj.

Journal Entry 14 by jennikj from Tomah, Wisconsin USA on Tuesday, December 12, 2006
I just finished the book last night...sorry it took me a little longer than it usually would, the last couple of weeks have been crazy for me... I really liked the book; I have to disagree that it was too long. I really liked getting to know how his world worked and all. The ending made me a little sad, but I see that there are two more Odd Thomas books in the series, so I'm going to look for the second one the next time I go to the used book store. Am going to pm LadyBookWyrm to get an address, and will send asap; I only get into town about once a week, but I will get it out as soon as I can. Thanks for sharing!! Jenni

I am so sorry for the delay! After the holidays I became ill and my friend came over to take care of me and clean up my apartment, and he put the book on my bookshelf and I just found it today while looking for something to read. I have wyldanthem's address and will mail the book within the next week. Again, I am terribly sorry for the mix-up!
