This is the first book about the Moomins, telling a story about Moominmamma and Moomintroll´s search for the missing Moominpappa and how they found their way to the Moominvalley.
I think the story was really sweet & and I really enjoyed reading how all the time they met many new magical creatures and places during their journey. It was also funny to read this book in English, as in my childhood I´ve been reading many of the books of the Moomins in Finnish, so it felt funny to return to this magical world with a different language.

I'm sending Moomins to Kimmi today! Happy reading to you all!

Journal Entry 4 by Kimmi from Kelowna, British Columbia Canada on Wednesday, September 13, 2006
Yay Moomins! This arrived safe and sound after its journey over the Atlantic. It's perfect timing as I've just finished reading a novel out loud to my students and was wondering what to start tomorrow. This will be the one!

Thanks katyan for sharing this with me and for putting me first on the list! I'll give you my grade 4/5 students' feedback as well.

Journal Entry 5 by Kimmi from Kelowna, British Columbia Canada on Saturday, September 16, 2006
Just wanted to let you know that I started reading this to my class on Thursday and they didn't want me to stop!

I will finish it with the class this week and send it along to beatrice-s.

I may have to try to get my hands on the other Moomin stories.

Journal Entry 6 by Kimmi from Kelowna, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, September 24, 2006
My students loved this book and their favourite parts were the man in the mountain with all the candy and the great flood itself. Several students asked if I would read more of the series so now I'm on a hunt for Moomin stories.

Thanks katyan for sharing this with my class and I.

It's going in the mail today to beatrice-s.

Happy reading!

Journal Entry 7 by beatrice-s from West Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Wednesday, September 27, 2006
I love it when Moomins arrive on my doorstep! I was trying to order this book online, but can't find it anywhere :( So I'm glad I get to read it at least!

Thanks katyan for your ray, and Kimmi for mailing... I *love* the Okanagan area; was not able to get out there this summer, but enjoyed the postcard :)

Oct. 28 - Oops! Totally forgot to journal!

I always enjoy reading about the Moomins, although this book did not seem as strong as the others. They seem to get more sophisticated, and also darker as the series progesses. Also, I prefer the later illustrations more. But I could never say that I don't like a Moomin book, and it was nice to see how they found their home in the valley and met up with Sniff.

I'll soon be ordering book 1 of the recently released Moomin comics for another Moomin fix :)

Journal Entry 8 by darkpunkangel from Barrie, Ontario Canada on Saturday, October 28, 2006
I got this on Thursday but was not able to journal until today, sorry! Well I actually finished the book was very cute and now actually interested to read more moomins adventures!

I will PM the next person in line and will send this off ASAP!

Journal Entry 9 by darkpunkangel from Barrie, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

It was ok. Not my style I guess. Hope Hobbit loves it!

Journal Entry 11 by well-chilled from Eagle River, Alaska USA on Thursday, February 8, 2007
I don't think I've heard back from Hobbit yet. I'm going to try again. If I did hear back, but just can't find the address, sorry. Either way, when I hear from Hobbit I'll move it along.

Journal Entry 12 by well-chilled from Eagle River, Alaska USA on Friday, February 9, 2007
Yup, it was my fault. As soon as I saw the picture on her site, I knew I'd PM'd hobbit before. I just lost the addy. Re-PM'd her just now. It'll be on its way (for real)soon. Sorry.

Journal Entry 13 by hobbit from Poughkeepsie, New York USA on Tuesday, May 1, 2007
This arrived safely in today's mail. When I saw it was from Alaska, I wondered at first what my brother had sent me as I wasn't expecting anything from him. Then I saw the rest of the return address and realized it was a ring book.

I'm looking forward to reading this. Thanks, katyan, for sharing it.

Journal Entry 14 by hobbit from Poughkeepsie, New York USA on Thursday, May 3, 2007
This was a fairly cute children's story and the line drawings had a simple charm.

I do have to say that there were a few things that bothered me - the lackadaisical attitude of the wandering father, and what felt like disrespect to a "small creature" who never gets a name or identity of his own but tags along with the moomins anyway. Also, I was confused by a scene in the forest where their lamps all went out, and then a few paragraphs later, it said that they were lucky one was still going.

But I'm glad to have gotten a chance to meet up with these characters who are so well beloved by many. I'm glad that you shared it - thanks katyan.

I've already got the address of spaceystacey so I'll get this in the mail to her within a day or two.

Updated May 8 to say that I went to the Post Office this morning and it's on its way.

Journal Entry 15 by spaceystacey from Bridgeton, New Jersey USA on Saturday, May 12, 2007
Received in the post today. Reading today as it will be a quick read. Plan to get it back in the post before the increase in fees.

First ever of this series. Great, fun read. Would love to read the rest of the series.

Journal Entry 16 by wingAzukiwing from Miami, Florida USA on Thursday, October 18, 2007
Moomin has arrived amidst sunny weather. I am used to seeing moomin with a bigger, rounder nose but the drawing is still rather cute. I won't take too long to finish it.

Journal Entry 17 by wingAzukiwing from Miami, Florida USA on Thursday, November 1, 2007
This is a charming little tale. I always knew of Moomin as a charming hippo-look-alike cartoon character from Japan based on some European children book, so thank you so much to Katyan for sharing this book so I get to read the tale in its original format.

ETA: mailing off to elizardbreat on Nov 8.

Journal Entry 18 by wingelizardbreathwing from Bella Vista, Arkansas USA on Monday, November 26, 2007

The Moomins arrived today! I'm really looking forward to getting to know them.
I don't know if the surprise envelope has been travelling with the book the whole journey or if some bookring participant has added this nice little extra on the road. :)
Thanks for the bookring, thanks to elizardbreath for the nice parcel and thanks to whomever for the cute moominy surprise!

Journal Entry 21 by wingMoemwing from Zevenaar, Gelderland Netherlands on Friday, February 29, 2008
Wow, there's so much in this package to brighten my day! A cute piggy card, a lovely magnetic bookmark (it was hard to pick just one, but I managed), bookplates and the first Moomin book!
Thanks for ringing and for sending this. I will certainly enjoy it.

Journal Entry 22 by wingMoemwing from Zevenaar, Gelderland Netherlands on Friday, March 28, 2008
Lovely little book! I love the pics, too... some of them I really wanted to see in colour.
This explains a lot that comes back in the later Moomin books. Yet it has a kind of unpolished feeling to it which really gives you the feeling you're reading ancient Moomin history.
Thank you for the chance to read this book! I'm PMing for the next participant's address, and will update this when I'm sending the book.

Update, March 31: the book's in the mail to Ratje-Toe.

Journal Entry 23 by ratje-toe from Zeist, Utrecht Netherlands on Tuesday, April 1, 2008
The book arrived at my house today, I'm very eager to read it! And indeed, lovely bookmarks! I chose a magnetic bookmark with Moem (That's Moomintroll's name in the Netherlands) fishing, thank you so much!

I read the book now, and it is all I expected and more. It's very cute and funny, and also, it has a very mysterious enchanting atmosphere to it. I really liked it. I will send it to iiwi soon.

Journal Entry 25 by wingiiwiwing from Zeist, Utrecht Netherlands on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
I received the book while visiting ratje-toe.

Journal Entry 26 by wingiiwiwing from Zeist, Utrecht Netherlands on Monday, May 12, 2008
"I stay here", said the cat, and yawned. "one should never make a needless fuss"

It's always nice to read a Moomin book, even if its 26 degrees out, and well, also inside my house. I always think the Moomin temperature is something like between 12 and 16, but that's propably not true, as is stated in this book Moomins like heat. And well, they live behind stoves and all... It seems that the series matures a bit later on, because the other Moomin books I've read are more mature and certainly darker than this one.
I was always a bit uncertain about the whole Moomin family, like who's what of what and are they even related or just friends. This due to the fact that all Moomin books aren't translated in dutch. But having read Bildhuggarens dotter, about Tove janssons childhood, it seems logical that the whole Moomin family is a bit shattered, as her own peergroup seemed to be a mixture of all kinds of friends and family.

Offcourse I read this book listening to Múm, the band who have named themselve after Moomins.

I will sent it to Plinius tomorrow.

Journal Entry 27 by Plinius from Schiedam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
My oh My, a real Moominbook I haven't read yet! Thanks iiwi!

Journal Entry 28 by Plinius from Schiedam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Friday, May 16, 2008
and I haven't met My in this first book! A good story, very simple and enjoyable. Everything a child wants is in these stories, including the imperfections. I still think I should have grown up with Moomins. I'm happy that here are the original pictures, not yet Walt Disneyed.
I took a Moomin bookmark, thanks! And after I've cured one of my cats of an attack of needless fuss, I'll send this to Fifna.
