From the back of the book

What is going on in Newcolonizedland?

If the humans teleported to the colony on the planet of Whale's Mouth are living in the dream world shown on the vid reports, why can't the Lies, Inc. security force get any reply from their agents who have made the (strictly one-way) trip to Whale's Mouth? And why are THL, who control the Telpor transportation system, desperate to stop Rachmael ben Applebaum from flying a spaceship to Whale's Mouth?

Is the dream world a multilayered nightmare? Is one of the nightmares real?

A brilliantly inventive novel of deadly adventure and intrigue in the world of ever-shifting realities.

Quite a confusing twisted plot in this intriguing Dick's novel! At several points I just lost track of what could be real and what could be hallucinaton - and the descriptions of drugs effects and distorted perceptions sound so real that one can't help wondering how many experiments Dick made on his own. Among the paradoxes, a corporation called LIES Inc. is actually willing to find out about the truth of what this Newcolonizedland is like. The possible explanations that face the characters when they get there are as fantastic and nightmarish as can be, featuring alternative realities and weird aliens and incredible transformations. But once again as in other Dick's works, human beings are their own worst enemies.
Thanks so much for letting me read this, AliceF!
I'm sending this to JeffsBeauty tomorrow morning: enjoy the reading!!

Another Philip K Dick book with interesting concepts. The publisher's note at the end explains that it was originally published in a magazine but that extra words were added for the book version. It's clear which sections were added and I think the book is weaker overall. A mixed bag.
