The twelfth and last volume of Powell's twelve volume novel A Dance to the Music of Time, published in 1975. It's 1969 - 1970, narrator Nick Jenkins is living with his wife Isobel in the country, near a group of standing stones known as Devil's Fingers. Many of the series' original characters have passed on, but those who were children in previous volumes (Fiona Cutts, the Quiggin twins) have become young adults.
