Review pending.
I will have to wait to read this book until I have finished the following ring books: I Hate You, Don't Leave Me, Branded, and Your Call is Important To Us. It wouldn't be nice to keep people waiting. ;-)

Although this book didn't manage hold my attention for more than a few pages at a time (whether due to the author's writing style or the eye-straining typeface it was printed with) I forced myself to finish the book, because I found the author's idea interesting.

That idea is, of course, that there are certain personality traits that cause the shameful behaviour we see today. First, there is the authoritarian personality trait, which as it sounds, causes one to be a conformist, to obey an authority figure, and to be distrustful of all others. Second, there is the social dominator trait. Someone with this trait seeks to dominate others and is usually amoral. When both traits occur in one individual, that is called a double high, and results in the "conservatives without conscience" to which the book refers. A perfect example is South Park's Eric Cartman: manipulative and self-centered to the point of evil, who demands that others respect his authority.

Ahem. Anyway, the author seems to suggest that the authoritarian trait is behind racism, sexism, and all the other negative "isms" that keep people divided. I can certainly imagine how it might be behind witch trials, inquisitions and crusades.
