Davidson's comedic werewolf-meets-sorceress romance will elicit delighted howls of laughter. Derik, a werewolf with a supergorgeous body to match his superpowered strength, wakes up alpha one morning; then, after the seer of the Wyndham werewolves has a vision of the end of the world, he is sent off to California to "take care" of Morgan Le Fay before she brings on the apocalypse. But Dr. Sara Gunn has no idea that she is an incarnation of the evil sorceress. And besides, she researched the legend of the enchantress in college and knows that her vilification was caused by patriarchal distortions of the historical record. When Derik discovers that he is unable to kill her as instructed, they set off to stop a cult that may destroy the world while trying to instigate King Arthur's return. Davidson's use of coarse language is perfect for Derik's canid personality. He, wolfishly enough, really does only have two major concerns in life: sex and food. This riotous romp is the first full-length novel in Davidson's Wyndham Werewolves series.

How can you go wrong with a werewolf in the story???????

Thank you SO much for this book, cheesygiraffe. I've been looking forward to reading this one. I think this one will be perfect to help me pass a lazy weekend afternoon lounging around on my deck in the sun. :)

Happy reading!
Paperback, 292 pages

From the back cover:
He's a werewolf with alpha issues—and a body to die for.

She's the personification of unspeakable evil—and smells like roses.

Now if they could just stop drooling over each other long enough to save the world...

It's always good to have a psychic around—except when she tells you the world will soon end unless you do something about it. For werewolf Derik Gardner, "doing something about it" means heading to sunny California and destroying the reincarnation of possibly the most powerful sorceress in history: Morgan Le Fay.

But the beautiful—and slightly ditzy—Dr. Sara Gunn has no idea that she is Morgan Le Fay. Her masses of wild red curls and crystal blue eyes make knocking her off an unpleasant prospect for Derik...and his half-hearted attempts don't meet with much success. So if he can't kill Sara, he'll join her, on a cross-country odyssey to change her fate, confront a medieval evil—and get a little something on the side...

Ok, so this book didn't help me laze away a day lounging on the deck in the sun.

It helped me laze away the day on the couch on a rainy day. ;-)

This book is just what I needed today. It's light and fluffy. I didn't have to use my brain a great deal.

And the sex...(um, the sex in the book)? Well, I might need a cigarette and a cold shower after reading this one.

This is a very cute, quick read. I enjoyed the characters, and, yes, the plot is thin, but I don't think that's the point of the book anyway. Derik and Sara are adorable, and I wouldn't mind reading more of their zany adventures. I have to admit that I now look at Rachel Ray with a more discerning eye, especially during the full moon.

I'll be sending this out within the next week to Amberkatze. Hope you enjoy the book!

A big huge thank you mellion108 for this book!!! It has been on my wishlist for some time and I am sure it will get read sooner rather than later!

I am thinking this maybe a Bookring book to compliment my 'Undead' series spiral...will have to wait and see what I think of it first though!

Journal Entry 6 by Amberkatze from Wien Bezirk 10 - Favoriten, Wien Austria on Friday, September 22, 2006
This book was great! It was nice to see the 'Pack' from another angle. I already met some of the members in 'Dead and Loving it' and Antonia the psychic is now in the 'Undead' series!

I think this book really needs to go on a Bookring now to compliment my 'Undead' series spiral!

This book just came in the mail a minute ago. I'm going to start reading it immediately. I was actually expecting this book - I just finished Katie MacAlister's You Slay Me yesterday, and I had a craving for more paranormal stuff. I managed to not start on another book, because I had the feeling I might get a bookring in the mail today, and I did! I'm off to the world of werewolves now! ;)

Btw, the card inside the book is really cool! ;) (Check out the picture to the right!)

Derik's Bane was a light and funny novel, and I would have finished it much sooner if I hadn't had to study for an exam this week. The book was perfect light reading when commuting to work and recovering from a migraine...

The best part of the book was the dialogue. MaryJanice Davidson is very good at writing about paranormal beings in a funny, slightly satirical way. The weakest part was the plot, which was pretty thin, and seemed more like a background to Derik's and Sara's encounter. I hate romance authors who do this mistake, but MaryJanice Davidson is so funny that I forgive her, and her books don't even feel like romance books, which is a big plus.

I was a bit annoyed that Derik's Bane felt so much like a sequel. The first story about the Wyndham werewolves, Love's Prisoner introduced us to Michael and Jeannie, and the second novella, Jared's Wolf is about Jared and Moira. Derik's Bane is the third installment in the series, and the only full length novel so far. There are more werewolf stories in the Dead And Loving It anthology. What annoys me is that the first two stories are published in anthologies that are really expensive. I wish there would be a compilation volume, so that the readers would get their money's worth. I'm not paying $12.99 for a short story...

I'm very interested in reading more about the Wyndham werewolves. I just wish it wasn't so expensive to collect all the stories...

Will send this book to WelshHelen next week.

I sent the book to WelshHelen today by economy mail (the cheaper and slower option). Thanks for organising the bookring, Amberkatze! I'm really happy I got to read this book. :)

Arrived safely today, thanks CandyDarling. I do have a few ring books ahead of it but hope to get to it fairly quickly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this - what a fast and fun read! It's left me wanting to know all about the other Wyndham Werewolves, though, especially Michael and Jeannie. I love litle Lara too and would love to follow her story (if it's written!) I enjoyed the whole Change scene, especially Sara's jealousy over "whats-her-fur" :-) As I said, fun, and hot!!

I've requested wyvernfriend's address and will get it in the post to her asap. Thanks for sharing yet again, Amberkatze - you're my one and only vampire/werewolf provider :-)

This really was a very very fast read (even for me and I'm a fast reader!) Derik is geting bored and just as he's about to do something really stupid he's rescued by having to go across the country to stop Dr Sara Gunn from destroying the world. He's pretty sure that means killing her, but when he bumps into her she's incredibly attracted to her and she to him. Sparks fly as they race to save the world from some loopy Arthurian cultists who want to return Arthur to the world as Sara is the reincarnation of Morgan Le Fay.
Will they survive, will she accept his furry side? Fun and frolics from the Author of the Undead series, light, undemanding and amusing.

This was a fast and cute read even though I thought it was a little slow to start. The characters and their antics were funny and ditsy which is what made it a brainless read. I did enjoy it and am happy to have been included in the ring. Will have this out to catsalive right after the New Year.

I've received this, thanks, terra57, and I've been very naughty & started it already. It's very silly and also very easy reading so it won't keep me from my other bookrings for very long.

Yep, silly as cut snakes. I did love the way Sara's luck worked & I enjoyed some of the quick dialogue too.

Thanks, Amberkatze. I'll send this off to Rianonne soon.

What a light, funny and highly entertaining read! Just what I needed to lighten me up :) I love MJ Davidson's style from her "Undead" series and was happy to see it continued here.
Reading the other journals I'm a bit disappointed that there aren't more novels from the Wyndham Werewolves around - but who knows what MJ is up to to keep us at it ;)
