Door in the Wall, The
1 journaler for this copy...
Picked this up at the 59th Annual Friends of the Library (of Hawaii) book sale. 1950 Newbery Medal winner.
Set in the England of Edward III (apparently 1327-1377), when there wasn't a "United Kingdom" yet.
Robin's father, Sir John de Bureford, goes off to the "Scottish wars", his mother, Lady Maud, is called to be a lady in waiting to the queen, and then Robin gets sick and is unable to walk. Pretty tough for a ten year old to deal with.
His condition gradually improves, and he journeys to the castle of his godfather, Sir Peter de Lindsay, where Robin must find a way to save everyone from the Welsh invaders.
I'd like to see an earlier edition of this book - I have a feeling the illustrations weren't reproduced as well as they could've been.
