Arrived safely in the post this morning. Thanks very much.
This really is one of the best books I've ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought the story was really clever, although it was an easy read (I read it in about a day!)
On one hand, it's a simple story about a teenage boy who's had some bad luck and gets sent to a camp and made to dig holes to teach him a lesson, but on the other hand it's a story about luck, destiny and families.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this book but it's too good to sit around so I'll find a way to pass it on.

Thanks, FabClaire, this book arrived to it's new home really quickly, faster than I suspected. I was glad to notice from your journal entry that the book was easy read - my English isn't so brilliant :)
This author is a new acquaintance for me.
EDIT 20.09.2006
I enjoyed reading this book, I agree with the earlier comments that it was easy to read, but it wasn't a simple story at all. After I had finished the book, I had to start it from the beginning again to check up some things again. I must try to find other books by Louis Sachar after this reading experience.Thank you again, Fabclaire!
I saw that one fellow bookcrosser has this book on her wish list, and I'm going to send this to her as a RABCK, if she likes to....

I received Holes in the mail yesterday. Thanks, lukutuoli, for sending it my way! It was very kind of you! And thanks for all the other journallers for passing on the book and sharing it with the world!
I have loads of study books to read at the moment, but I'm sure I'll manage to find time for Holes soon. Sachar really writes in a easy-to-read style, I've read some of his books before. Holes is the one that won the Newbery Medal, and that's another reason why I'm excited to read it. I hope to read all the Newbery Medal winners some day.

Well, I certainly didn't take long to read Holes. I started reading the book yesterday and finished it this morning. (I even managed to get some sleep in between.) I agree with all previous journalers: this was a brilliant read. Holes certainly deserved to win the Newbery Medal.
Holes tells the parallel stories of three different familes and an outlaw. And in the end the stories aren't parallel at all, since the fates of all families are intertwined. Holes isn't a very realistic book - karma and curses and amazing coincidences play a big part in the story - it's more like a fairy tale, really. I loved it! I especially liked the part about Latvia, a country where daughters are bartered for pigs and mud-wrestling is the favourite pastime. :)
Lately I've become pretty good at picking up the clues and guessing what's going to happen in a book. I did guess a lot of the things that happened in Holes as well. It didn't make the reading any less enjoyable, on the contrary: the clues were pretty clever, and it was nice to keep predicting the turns that fate might yet take. All in all, Holes was a very enjoyable book! Thanks for passing it on, y'all!
I have just noticed that Holes has travelled pretty fast. It was registered in July, and has had three readers in less than three months. Good going, little book! I'll have to think of a way to let it continue on its travels soon.
ETA: I'm taking Holes to the local meet-up next week, and it's going to be book #31 in my "2006 Keep Them Moving" challenge, started by Guinaveve.
ETA: There's been a change of plans, and Holes is now reserved for Niksu!

Got this from harmaja at our monthly meetup today. Thanks for letting us choose books from your AVL-shelf. Other journal entrys sounded so good I couldn't resist asking this one. Looking forward to read this.
I didn't have a heart to bury this under my TBR-pile so I read it after I finished one ringbook I was in the middle of when got this from harmaja. I agree with the others. Really good book, there is lot moore in this than just digging holes. It has 231 pages but still it's quick read.
This book has categorized as childrens book but I think this is perfect for teens and adults also. Worth to read, definitely!
I will post to Finnish forum to see if there is enough interest to this book to start a bookray. This book needs to travel :)

I got this book today as a part of the bookray! Thank you!
I finished reading Holes yesterday night, I actually read almost the whole book at once, I enjoyed it so much. It was a complicated but enjoyable story, in the beginning it remainded me a little Mark Haddon's style (I love his books), but it was quite different after all. I especially loved the story behind the name "Stanley Yelnats" :) and Stanley's father's motto "I learn from failure"... :)
"If Stanley and his father weren't always hopeful, then it wouldn't hurt so much every time their hopes were crushed."
After all, the story was surprising and this was an enjoyable book indeed. Thank you for sharing it! I'll send it soon to halonhakkaaja!

Here is a review from another satisfied bookcrosser: Holes is definitely one of the best books I've read this year!
As it has already been said, this is a quick and easy to read book but it has a lot in it. I loved how everything came together in it and that every little thing had a meaning. I think I want to read the book again some day; I'm pretty sure I'll find even more in it then.
A big thank you to everyone that has had the book before and decided to share it! I've been feeling a bit down lately, so it was really nice to read such a good book.
I'll give the book to Mergylien tomorrow.

Kemppu gave me Holes in Oulu's bc-christmasparty on last friday.
19.12.2006:
The Holes was fan and easy to read. Like Kemppu said: Holes is definitely one of the best books I've read this year! I agree with that.

Got the book in the mail yesterday. Since I'm the last in this ray, I might keep the book a bit longer than a month.

Bringing the book to the Helsinki BC-meetup.
I picked up this book once more at the meet-up. Perhaps I should read it again! In any case I will soon release it in our new book recycling shelf in the village hall.
Will take with me on a trip to SF. About time the book got back to California.
