9 out of 10

Incredible. Unbelievable. Impossible? This time, Rollins whisks the readeer from Copenhagen to South Africa and the Himalyas in a more than turbulant way! His latest journey is some kind of a whirlwind in the center of which mankind is looking back - where are we coming from? - but mostly looking into the future: where will evolution bring mankind? What is truth? What is fiction? In this new adventure thriller James Rollins tries to pinpoint some possibilities...

I would recommend to read first "Sandstorm", then "Map of Bones" and then only "Black Order".

I'm making a bookray out of this one. Are you interested? Just send a PM!

Thank you Book-man for sending the book, it arrived today! The postcard is beautiful and it was a delightful surprise to find it! I'll have to remember to pick up a postcard to include for the next recipient.

The book looks intriguing and I'm really excited to read it - I do think some sleepless nights are in order! :)

I just finished the other book I was reading so I'm starting this right away.

10 out of 10

James Rollins has done it again! I've grown quite fond of all of Sigma's members and it is exciting to see how their lives are progressing. In Black Order, Fiona was definitely one of my favorite characters! Yet again, Rollins has forced me to add a few more books to my wishlist in order to satisfy my curiosity on the facts behind his books! First it was white gold, and now Nazi technology! Rollins books are not only page turning because of the action and adventure.. but because the science behind his writing is so fascinating!

I hope everyone else enjoys this book as much as I have!

Thanks for sharing it book-man! I'll be sending it on it's way soon.
edited to add: Mailed this off today 8/17, so I hope it arrives soon! :)

Thank you for sharing. I look forward to more Rollins books. I have Ice Hunt in my tbr pile.

I enjoyed the escaping adventure of the book. But I do admit it was confusing as to how Copenhagen, the Himalyas and Africa were all going to connect.

Due to my health and terrible lines at the post office, the book was delayed in getting out. It was mailed by air to the next person on Sat 12/24/06. So I hope it gets there sometime next week.

Thanks again for sharing.

7 out of 10

I really enjoyed this book, though I found the first part somewhat annoying because of all the different plots continually left at cliff-hangers. It almost felt like I was reading the first chapters of several different books! Another small criticism is that I found its characters lacked depth. Okay, one more, a number of the escapes from imminent death were not believable.

The science is fascinating, though it's hard to draw the line between what is fact and what is pure fiction. A good book, exciting and complex.

8 out of 10

This is the first Rollins Sigma Force novel that I have read and I found it to be a fun fast-paced action novel. The novel takes the reader across four continents from an old bookstore (always of interest) in Copenhagen, to the frozen Himalayas in Nepal, to the wilds of South Africa, and downtown Washington D.C. The book does leave you hanging at these various locations until it nears the satisfactory conclusion. The characters were well written and believable including the Nazis (and reformed Nazis). As Amazon.com says: “What would thriller writers do without the Nazis?” The book also provided some interesting scientific concepts such as quantum evolution and some interesting information about the Nazis and Himmler’s quest to find the origins of the Aryan race.

On a side note, the Sigma Force team reminded me a lot of one of my favorite pulp heroes from the 30’s and 40’s that I read in high school – Doc Savage. Doc had a team of five members who traveled the globe seeking out evil-doers. One of his team members was named Monk – since Monk is also the name of a Sigma member, this is probably why I kept thinking of the Doc stories when I was reading this novel. Also, I didn’t realize that I worked so close to Sigma Force headquarters which is supposed to be located beneath the “Smithsonian castle” in Washington D.C. I work about a block from that building in D.C.

I have a copy of “Map of Bones” which I meant to read before I got to “Black Order” but I didn’t get to it. I will move it up on my reading list and look forward to reading other previous Rollins novels.

Thanks again book-man-8 for including me in this bookray. I have Catsalive's address and will get the book in the mail soon.

Another adrenaline read, as I've come to expect of James Rollins! It did look kind of chaotic in the start, like there were several unrelated stories, but it all tied up in the end. And the love stories were so sweet, they made me go awwww. :))

Very interesting read. I had a bit of trouble getting my head around all the quantum theory, and I might just have to read more on the subject. It was an exciting book, and despite somewhat stereotypical characters I liked it very much.

Passing it on to bilbi, because she had requested to read it when the ray ended.
